Front door that opens right into the livingroom??Anyone have a house like this?
I mean literally right into the livingroom....no coat coat closet on one side....no hallway....no wall.....nothing....just the living room. I saw a house a few days ago this was the one thing that really bothered me.....I absolutely loved everything else. So my question is.....is there anything youu could do to change this a little?

My old house had the exact same set-up....the front door opened into the dining room and living room - - one large room with two separate spaces. The room wasn't big enough - but I would have liked to add in a knee wall or something to "contain" the entryway. Could you do that? Also, having the flooring different in the immediate entryway would make a difference.
For me - it was a big negative about my house.....though I loved what we were able to do with the space we did have.
My pics are below - - one big room, two perspectives.....the front door is to the right in the first picture, to the left in the second.

You could add a half wall with arches or even a little mud room if the space is big enough.

Our cape is like that. You enter through the front door and the stairs are directly in front of you. Dining/living rooms are to the left, kitchen to the right.
I suppose if we expand, we could add a front entry or closet, but for now it's ok.

I have a front to back split and it is completely open. But that's what I like about it - nothing formal, walk in the front door and kitchen to the left, dining room to the right and a small staircase (about seven steps) about ten feet in front of you. I love how open it is.

My parent's house is like this (an L-shaped ranch) and growing up, I never thought twice about it, but when we were looking for our own house, I realized that I wanted a closet ot *something* to put my coat into when I first walk into the house.
I like the suggestion of building a half-wall to separate the two areas

our house is an expanded ranch. I think there was a coat closet where the stairs to go to the second floor now are. You walk in my front door & you're in a tiny area with a banister directly in front & the great room is just there. I really miss having a coat closet. We added wall rack & boat bench near or back door to make it a little better.

My house has this. I think alot of older houses are like this. My house was built in 1920 and there is no closet for coats or a hallway or anything.. you open the door and you are in the living room.

ITA! Our house is like that. We have a coat closet behind the front door (when it's opened) and we put a bench on the left hand wall next to the closet. Then to the right is our LR.
