A few painting questions - please help!
The next 2 weeks will be devoted to painting the house. The previous owners had a bizarre love for high gloss paint in funky colors. Here are my questions....
1 - do I need to prime the high gloss stuff before painting over it? (it's mostly the trim work)
2 - We plan on doing the trim in the bedrooms all white - the trim right now in one room is dark blue, another is bubble gum pink and the master is a yellowish cream (all high gloss). If I do need to prime all of this, do I prime it white? (The dining room has seafoam green trim, but that's a whole other post!)
3 - if the walls are 2 different colors of blue (top and bottom) and we want to paint the room an in-between blue, do we need to prime also or can we just paint over what's there? It's a flat paint on plaster walls 4 - how much paint do you think I would need for the following room sizes - 8x8, 12x12 and 13x14
Thanks so much - any info would be appreciated!

I would prime everything - especially if you are going to different shades.
We had a bright blue semigloss room that we had to cover up, and it took a ton of primer to get rid of the stuff. But - it gave us a fresh "canvas" to work with.

I really would prime all walls with 2 coats of primer.
Start fresh. Also paint adheres better to a primer for sure.

When I purchased my house it was a blend of peach and blues..... yes it was lovely, I purchased the Wagner paint crew paint sprayer and went crazy...... Prime EVERYTHING...... if you dont you will hate yourself later, when you are putting on the third coat of paint.
As far as the high Gloss trim, there is a product called liquid sandpapaer which will take the gloss off and make the new primer adhere.
The sprayer will take a little getting use to but in the end I would say it saved me 2 days of rolling.
As far as paint quantity, I asked the Benjamin Moore salesman..... Take your room measurements to the paint store....
Enjoy... Image Attachment(s):

Prime everything and use a good primer, it will be worth the extra step.
