Back from a baptism...

and it was a rough day. Chat Icon 2 ppl there are pregnant so I got to hear all about the pregnant stuff- then my SIL starts in on me asking me when she's going to be an aunt and telling me to make her an aunt already.
I wanted to reach across the table and strangle her- I just replied that we're trying and then felt myself starting to get all red b/c I wasn't breathing right- so I got up and went outside. Some people are so inconsiderate- -- even when they're not trying to be. Ok, I just needed to vent!@!!

Re: Back from a baptism...

I know how hard it is and as each month goes by, it hurts more and more. We are here for you.

I have a family event next weekend and I anticipate many of the same comments. My immediate family knows not to ask. I inform them as I go, but I have a few members of my extended family who have yet to learn social graces. When they ask me when I plan on getting pregnant, I will reply "As soon as you pay me the bounced check fee from your wedding gift." That should keep them quiet for a while.

Yeah- it was a really crummy time. My DH made a comment that is so true though- I said that she probably just didn't know the hard time that we were having TTC and he brought up the fact that at about 9 months on the dot before we got married my SIL got pregnant (not married or even with the father since she got PG). It was quite a coincedence that she had the baby like 3 weeks before our wedding. He's pretty sure she did it to spite me b/c I was lookiing forward to having the first child in the family since my DH is the oldest and is the only one of the kids married. He thinks she mentioned that in front of the whole table just to upset me- and I'm not sure what to think. And to think that when her ENTIRE family turned their back on her I threw her her baby shower and told them that as soon as the baby was here they wouldn't remember the last 9 months- and I was right!

Re: Back from a baptism...

I think regardless of whether anyone is aware of difficulties, that it is simply innappropriate to ask. Its like asking for an invitation into someone's bedroom and for some, a medical history.

Oh there is your answer....she is jealous! Don't pay attention to her and you and your DH don't owe anyone any excuses about your TTC/pregnancy status!

Re: Back from a baptism...

I feel the same way at times when I am around my 2 best friends who both recently had babies. I try to use my visits with them as reminders that it is all worth it in the end. Seeing the babies actually sometimes helps me to stay positive and reaffirms my desire to become a mom

I avoided the baby shower the day before but my husband wasn't thinking about my feelings I guess (or just didn't realize it) and rsvp'd that we'd be there. I understand where you're coming from.
I went to a graduation party instead of the shower and ended up running into someone that I went to school with and guess what--- she got married after me and had her newborn with her too-- -you just can't get away from it. Chat Icon
