For those that had Pre-TTC appts with their Gyno's

When did you go?? And I am not talking about an appt that is your yearly-- this is specifically to talk about TTC. My new doc said we should have one of these and I forget when she said.

We want to start end of December... I feel like I should go like two months before, stop the pill and do whatever else I need to do to "get ready"...

Was just wondering what other people did. I know this seems far away-- but before we know it, summer will be over and fall will be upon us.

Re: For those that had Pre-TTC appts with their Gyno's

I went last month as we just started TTC "officially" this month. Only thing the Dr. gave me was a script for Prenatal which I had bought one month earlier from GNC. Not much now but a waiting game. I learned more on this site TTC than any advice my Dr. gave me.

That sounds about right. I just went a month ago but I couldn't get a sooner appt. Giving it 3 months is a good idea so you can get advice on pre-natals, get blood work done, etc.

Well I went off the pill on my own and saw the dr. about 4 months before I wanted TTC... little did I know I wouldn't actually be able to TTC because I wasn't ovulating, but thats a whole different story. Chat Icon

I went 2 weeks ago for my 6 month, where I told her I wanted to TTC. I finished the pill last weekend. I am now on pre-natals to start getting ready.

September sounds good. They will probably start you on prenatals and send you for bloodwork. It's good to get that out of the way before you TTC.

Re: For those that had Pre-TTC appts with their Gyno's

I had the discussion during my annual right after I got engaged - so I'm no help!

However, he did tell me to be off the pill for 3 months before starting TTC, and to make sure I took a multi-vitamin and folic acid for the full three months before we started trying.

I went two months before we "planned" to ttc. It turns out I was pg at the appointment!

Re: For those that had Pre-TTC appts with their Gyno's

i went the month we started trying to conceive.

honestly, i found the appointment to be anti-climactic. i thought there was going to be all of this... "instruction"... but she basically said, you're healthy, good luck, see you in a few months! there was nothing to it, really. she said i could buy over-the-counter prenatals, no big deal.

the other sort of annoying thing about it was that i had ALL this bloodwork done at the time, and then it ALL had to be repeated when i actually got pregnant!

so all in all, i found the appointment basically useless. i wouldn't sweat it...

I talked to her about it at my last annual right before I got married - as I was planning on starting TTC on the HM. She sent me for a "maternal blood" package test right after the HM, then I went on pre-natals.

Re: For those that had Pre-TTC appts with their Gyno's

I talked to her at my annual appt, which turned out to be about 2 months after I went off the pill (I couldn't get an appt earlier). TBO, I really knew everything she told me so it would have kinda been a waste to go in just to talk about TTC. She did give a prescription and samples for prentatas as well as some pamphlets and 2 issues of conceive magazine. then, she told me to call her when I get a BFP or 6mos with no BFP and she would start preliminary bloodwork if I wanted.

I went the month we decided to TTC. For the record, it just so happened to be right around the time of my annual so I had that done while I was there.

Re: For those that had Pre-TTC appts with their Gyno's

I think 3 months before you start trying is good. That gives you enough time to get your body adjusted from birth control (if you are using) and to start prenatals!

We went three months prior to TTC. My dr wanted to put me on pre-natals at least 3 months prior to becoming pg.

I went to the doctor in June, went off the pill in July and got pregnant in January. The pill screwed me up and it took awhile for my body to regulate.

I went 1 month before TTC. It was very helpful, she gave me the prenatal vitamins and we talked about different things. Very informative!
