you know what I don't get though, why are these "estates" always decorated so guadily? (is that a word?) Is it a prerequisite?

The staircase in the first one is insane. The second house is scary to me, like it may be haunted.

Re: Like a Castle

The 2nd one (The Woolworth Estate) has been on the market for years. I've always dreamed of that house!

I'd give anything to live in one of the original Gold Coast mansions

I think it is a prerequisite. I was thinking that I would definitely want to remove all of that wallpaper.

The one in Oyster Bay Cove (the first one) is the Northwood Estate, I think... I know where it is, its just beautiful up there.

Duh, I clicked on properties and it is. It's been on the news a lot and in our local paper. It's about 5 minutes from where I live.

Re: Like a Castle

Woodward Estate William Woodward estate, built 1927-Site of one of the most sensational Long Island murder cases, this estate is now owned by a religious institution. In 1955, Mrs. Woodward shot and killed her husband, claiming she thought he was a burglar. Although acquitted of the murder charge, some people still doubt the innocence of Mrs. Woodward. The case was the subject of a book and television movie, The Two Mrs. Grenville's. Once a structure whose main purpose was recreation, this estate included an indoor tennis court, now used by the church as a storage area. Today, its long driveway, lined with Rhododendrons, is a residential street with houses constructed along its length, but still culminating at the front of the mansion.

Re: Like a Castle

They had separate bedrooms and separate guns! That must of been one hell of a marriage. I wonder if the place is considered haunted?
