Question for those who had a m/c- DNC vs the shot.
Unfortunately I am trying to prepare myself for the worst.
Back in January I got pregnant, and m/c'ed naturally a week before my first sono appt was due. Then In March, after a cycle finished we started TTC again, and had sucess. I went for my 7 1/2 week appt last tues. to find out the dr sees a pregnancy sac- but only looks 5 1/2 weeks- perhaps possible b/c I have heard of some girls second cycle off after a m.c.
I am going back tomorrow, optimistic but expecting the worse as i have read about the blighted ovum and such, and 2 weeks difference is alot of time. I havent lost any pregnancy symptoms yet....
SOOOOO..... i am going on a family trip to FL leaving Saturday afternoon. My appt is with the dr tomorrow morning. If this baby stopped then its not m'cing on its own... Whats better the shot or the dnc? It was very emotional for me last time when it was natural and I really would rather avoid seeing it pass again, however i have never had surgery before. How does the dnc work? they cant do it in the obgyn office right? in the hospital in an operating room? Im a little nervous....

First - hugs to you!!
I went through this back in November. At the 8 week sono, development had stopped about 1-2 weeks prior. I had a D&C a few days later. The D&C itself is not a big deal physically - they treat it as out-patient surgery, but you do require general anethesia (sp?). I had just mild cramping and some spotting afterwards.
I don't know anything about the shot, it wasn't even offered as an option to me - but honestly, I would not want to go through it.

I just wanted to say that I'm sorry. Don't give up hope yet. I know you're preparing for the worst, but I hope that's not the case.

First I hope it is not the worst case.
If it is-that will mean you had 2 early m/c's which is a red flag-you may want to have the recurrent pregnancy loss panel. As far as your question. I have only had methotrexate never a D&C and I have had a number of early m/c's. For me I try to stay away from anasthesia and surgery. However it is a good idea to have pathology done and there are specialists that do this. My Dr's always recommended the metho. shot. Good luck whatever you decide-FM if you need further info.
