Re: Did I just hear correctly?????????
I'm just curious why people are furious he is out on bail. That was to be expected. It's extremely rare that bail is denied or that bail is set so high as to be cost-prohibitive.
At first I thought you all meant he was walking free of the charges. He's still facing the charges. He just doesn't have to sit in jail while awaiting trial (or plea bargaining).

I feel thaey should leave you in jail for a few days and then let you out on bail just so you have time to think about what you have done and the severity of your actions

The fact that his whole family is on his side& acting like it's no big deal kills me. The child could be traumatized for life. I would kill my husband if he ever did that.

I thought the charges were dropped also- I am glad to hear they weren't
I am not surprised he is out on bail- that's normal and to be expected
I would have been ****** if the charges were dropped- this guy deserves jail time-

He deserves to be out on bail, that is the way our judicial system works. The cards are stacked against him for trial and WHEN he is OFFICIALLY convicted and had his chance for due process than everyone can be happy that he gets jail time.

Re: Did I just hear correctly?????????
While what this guy did was deplorable- our prisons are just too crowded to deny bail to people who are not a risk to society.
He's an idiot and deserves to lose custody of his child as well as be sentenced appropriately. But I don't think he should be denied bail.
I just feel so bad for that poor baby- to be strapped into a carseat overnight

I think he'll definitely get jail crime. Every year there are cases of parents who were devastated when they left their child sleeping in the car by accident. The father at the LI train station - they reported he was frantic & practically in tears.
The thing that gets me is their non-chalant attitude about the whole thing. That's depraved indifference in my book.

See, I see it differently. If my child ever did something like that, publically I would completely support him. I totally expected his family to publically support him.
Also, all we see is what the media is spinning. Whatever will sell more papers. Soyou don't know what is being edited out, what is being unsaid.
What goes behind closed doors is another thing. His family may hate him, but in public they are putting up a united front (as I would if it were my family).
THe mother did the right thing and got custody. But frankly, we don't know the kind of mother she was since it doesn't look like she had custody in the first place.
THere is no doubt that what this man did was disgusting and he should have all unsupervised visitation rights withdrawn. But you can't expect his immediate family to trast talk him to the media. How does that help anyone? Especially the little boy.

Re: Did I just hear correctly?????????
i must have missed the part about the family bailing him out....all i heard was the reporter say something like "walked out a free man"
the fact that his family is down playing what he did, and bailed him out so quickly, is scary! where the heck is the little boys mother? if i were her, I'd go back to court for sole custody, because he obviously has a drinking problem!!

Very good points Shelly!!!

Could be... Either way- mom did or should sue for full custody. That'll be the easiest custody battle ever.

I really don't see the legal justification for denying bail in this situation.

Re: Did I just hear correctly?????????
Upon thinking about this more, I have to agree with Shelley. It's to be expected that one's family would publicly support them during just about anything. Now, I think it's different if you're the mother of the child, but I would expect his relatives to support him. If you can't have your family's support - even after the most horrible thing you've ever done - whose can you have?
We don't have to be on his side, but I can see how his family should be. That aside, the media is the biggest collection of spin doctors. We're not even getting half the story, and as someone else pointed out, we have no idea what is going on behind closed doors.
I still fail to see the outrage regarding him being out on bail. He's still facing the charges and I really don't see why bail should have been denied in this instance. Denying bail is saved for very rare instances or where the defendant is a serious flight risk.
I'm hoping his visitation and/or custody rights have been temporarily suspending pending the outcome of this trial... I'm sure (or rather hoping) the mother at least is going to family court to ask for that.

Oprah had a show years ago where a man left his baby in a carseat while he went into work. The baby died from the heat before a coworker came screaming into the office about his baby in car. The man was devasted beyond belief. His wife stayed with him. Although horrible, that was a pure accident. His wife normally took the baby to daycare and the husband had a presentatino his mind was on that day. Pure accident. In this case now, the man was drinking. How irresponsible. Hopefully he will get jail time and the ex-wife will get full custody.

He had the baby for the night, not full time custody
He paid his own bail, the guy has money.
It is SICK, SICK, SICK that he only had $75,000 in bail. That is a joke amount.

I don't think $75K is a joke of an amount of bail- 95% of the people that get arrested would be hard pressed to come up with it
$5K would be a joke
