baby showers - ok to pass?
This whole process is draining me, I'm so impatient, I feel as if everyone around me is pg. Just crazy! Anyway, I just got an invite to a baby shower and I don't want to go. This is not a close friend of mine, but family - she is my husband's (and I guess my) nephew's new wife. They just got married and she was pg at the wedding. Well, I just don't feel like going; especially since it's at a house and will probably drag on (her bridal shower was only 4 months ago and that dragged, even at a restaurant). DH and I are leaving to go away that weekend, the shower is the day before. I know it's sooo mean, but I am not at all close with her and was hoping I could use the trip as an excuse. It's mostly because I can't help but be jealous that she just boom got pg!!! And I think it was an accident which makes me feel even worse. Again, I know it's mean....

I think it's ok to pass. Especially since you aren't close to her.
A friend of mine was trying for years and she couldn't bring herself to go to baby showers. She would just send a gift along with her warm wishes.
Not to be mean - but why should you feel like total crappola all day? It's not like she's not going to have fun without you there....

Re: baby showers - ok to pass?
I would pass. I would probably just stop by at a later date and bring her a little gift.

I would pass. You have to put your feelings first right now.
I would send a gift - or stop by with a gift - at a later date.

Re: baby showers - ok to pass?
definitely ok to pass.
some people call it "self preservation."
The worst feeling in the world is to be at a baby shower and have someone say,"ooh, you'll be next," or, "so, when are you going to get moving?"

Ok, I'm going to be in the minority here but I think you should go. I understand what you're saying and where you're coming from but the fact that she is technically family just makes me feel as if it's something that you shouldn't pass up.
Of course, this is just one girl's opinion here, you need to do what's best for you.
