Those of you who have experienced a m/c - UPDATED
UPDATE Thank you all for your responses and FMs. Yesterday, something happened that I did NOT expect. I was not told it was an option - I was told miscarrying naturally would be like a bad period, with clots and tissue. Well, I passed the sac INTACT. This is so TMI - but it was sitting on the pad. I am only sharing this in a regular post so if anyone else goes through this, they will have been warned and not shocked as I was this morning. The upside of this is that I now feel like this is complete. I am able to bring it in to be examined - just like they would have done if I had the D&C, and they'll ck me to be sure the miscarriage is complete.

Re: Those of you who have experienced a m/c
first of all, i'm so sorry again
i've never had a m/c so i'm not completely sure about the course of it. but is there any chance you could be honest with your workplace/boss? if you tell them that you currently feel physically fine, but that there is a chance you may need to leave if it gets bad, would they understand?
it just sounds like it might be less stressful to you if you could tell them the truth about what's going on...

Re: Those of you who have experienced a m/c
Unfortunately, in my work environment, no, I cannot be honest with them. I have explained to a colleague who has been thru a similar situation so she can help cover for me, but as far as sharing with my boss- it's out of the question (he would be very understanding, but he also has little regard for privacy and would be compelled to share with my whole office which I absolutely am not having). Also, my commute to NYC is an hour and a half - I'm afraid of what will happen if it gets worse on the train - or at work and I can't get home quickly.

Re: Those of you who have experienced a m/c
I've read that some girls m/c isn't that painful. They bleed a bit and that's it. Mine was very very painful. It started with brown spotting at night. By the next night it was a red flow with lots of clots (not a nice picture), but the pain wasn't bad. In the morning I was in so much pain I asked my DH to bring me to the ER. We ended up going to the GYN and they did a D&C right then. So as for the bleeding, I'm not sure how long it takes because after my D&C, I was fine, very little bleeding and no pain. I know you will have to go the GYN to have them check that everything came out otherwise you will need a D&C. The reason I did the D&C was because my dr. did say that some women bleed for weeks before it all comes out and I just didn't want to deal anymore with it.

Mine was not painful except when I passed tissue. I think I wrote this in another thread? I did bleed for about 25 days with the heaviest and painful part about 1 week after I first saw blood.

So sorry for your loss

I had a natural m/c and mine was the same. It started with brown blood, then within hours it went to red with bad cramping and I only passed clots/tissue while going to the bathroom, I kinda pushed it out. This went on for 2 days.
After that, I only spotted for 2 weeks. I never had to wear a pad, only liners, even during the passing of tissue.
My levels were down to 0 withing 3 days too.
I am so sorry for your loss

I also had a natural M/C. The first day was pink/brown spotting, but the next day is was almost like a bad period. I had bad cramps and was passing clots, but only when I went to the bathroom. The bleeding and clots only lasted for 2-3 days, then I had spotting for 2-3 days. Mine started on a friday and it was over by the following Friday. I didn't need to stay home, luckily it started on the weekend. My levels were down to a 3 three days after it started.

Also wanted to mention my levels hovered around 50 and I needed to get methotrexate

Re: Those of you who have experienced a m/c
So I called Hanauer's office to explain what's happening. I said that I started miscarrying naturally yesterday and am currently scheduled for the D&C on Friday. I said I wanted to speak to her (the doctor) to see if she still thinks Friday is still necessary being that the process has already begun. The nurse called back to say - "just go to the ER if you have a problem, otherwise she'll see you Friday". I tried to explain, the whole point of my call is to determine if I can skip the D&C and she said there is no way to know if the miscarriage is complete! That's not true, rt? I mean, initially I had the option to wait it out and do this naturally, so why would they now be telling me I still will need the D&C. Please tell me this is just a case of the nurse not understanding.

I would call them back and insist on an ultra sound. they can tell that way! as well as a check. After this switch dr.s I'm so sorry. maybe you are better off going to the ER.

Re: Those of you who have experienced a m/c - UPDATED in LAST POST
It is shocking - I just cannot even believe it. When I called the doctor on call, he said this usually does NOT happen (because I was complaining that I should have been warned about this). I'm not sure if that makes me feel better, or worse.

Caroline I am so sorry you are going through this. I had a miscarriage 7 years ago and also passed the sac intact. Weird thing was I wasn't even bleeding beforehand....I started after words. I know it's hard and I'm sending you some and

Re: Those of you who have experienced a m/c - UPDATED in LAST POST
The good news is that it doesn't look like I'll need the D&C. The MD took care of giving me a shot of the Rh Globin (whatever it's called), so I think the physical part of this is over, and honestly, it helps with the emotional part. Hallelujah for a little closure!!

Re: Those of you who have experienced a m/c - UPDATED
im so sorry, i had a m/c natural and it sucked. I stayed home for 4 days while it mostly took care of itself. Unfortunately I did see some of "it" when i went to the bathroom, when i went back on the 3rd day they took my blood and my levels were low so they said i did it naturally and nothing else was needed...we have the same dr
