we usually spend together... so we tend to make joint decisions on basically everything even, like shana said, a dvd.
we do our own shopping too,,, but its never really extravvagant.. he'll get movies and music.. i get clothes. He never spends alot though, and if i'm going clothes shopping- he knows that if he doesnt come to 'keep me in line'... then he cant complain about how much i spent

Yes, we are aware of what the other person spends. I pay all the bills.....When DH gets paid he transfers money minus spending money for week from his account into the joint account. My check goes directly into the joint account and I spend money from there.
But back to Oprah, I don't see how the one lady could hide that she had $160K in debt from the husband. They bought a house together, so unless it's in his name only I don't see how you can hide that kind of debt from your spouse.

I open all bills, pay all bills and watch them online and keep all paystubs. I'd be shocked if he got into that kind of debt over that much time.

We know everything about what each other spends. I do the bills. As far as his pocket money, I see the shopping bag when he comes in the door so he cant hide anything - I dont hide anything either. I would feel too guilty. I tell him when I buy $5 lipstick.

I cannot buy a pack of gum without telling him. And the only thing he ever buys is drinks at the gym - so yes we both know exactly what each other spends.

DH has us on a very exact budget. We both know how much goes towards bills, savings, and how much extra spending money each has. He's very honest with me. Sometimes I fib a little

DH takes care of all the bills...and yes, I would be shocked if he led us into debt...because I think I pretty much know what he is spending money on and he knows what I buy.

We are both very honest with all our purchases. Whenever either of us buy anything, we tell each other. He doesn't shop without me so it makes it very easy! I check online balances every week so I am on top of all the accounts. I also pay a majority of the bills so I keep an eye on those things too. DH knows I can't even go to the grocery store without telling him how much I spend so he knows he doesn't have to worry either.
I also feel guilty about buying myself things so I find myself calling him even to buy a $10 t-shirt!
