Apple picking on LI
Can anyone recommend a place on LI to go apple picking that has some other activities as well... like a playground, maybe a hayride or bouncers? We’ve been to Harbes and Woodside already. I’d like to spend a good portion of the day wherever we go. TIA!

Hanks is great! This year we went to Seven Ponds Orchard in Watermill because they had more varieties of apples. But Hanks has more for the kids to do.

We always go to Seven Ponds Orchard. They have good apples, plus a hay ride, a corn maze, a playground area... it is an extra fee for these activities.

Apple picking on LI
I used to go to Harbes, but cannot get on board with the price increase (went from $8 per person to $14 per person unless you arrive before 10:30am in which case it is only $10 pp)
I am going to try out Hanks so I can get apples and pumpkins done in one shot.
Does anyone know if Seven Ponds has pumpkins too? I have heard great things about them

Wickham Fruit Farm in Cutchogue is cute. They have a hayride to the apple orchard. No bouncers. Never crowded.

We went to Harbes and it wasn't good. The lot was full and they closed it right after we got in at like 2 pm. It was expensive and the only rows they had open, had no apples on them. They had everything else roped off. There was one row that actually had apples but a ton of people were trying to get apples from it.
There must have been 15-20 rows of trees with absolutely nothing left. Like not one apple hanging that wasn't already rotten. I realize getting there at 2 pm prob wasn't ideal, but how can you expect a group of 40+ people to fit in one row left of apples? They should have opened more rows. We thought about trying to get a refund, but then just decided to make the best of it. Walking through all the rows with nothing left DS was starting to get upset. Once we we found that last row that still had apples, he started having a good time even though it was packed.
Are there any orchards open during the week? I feel like that's the only way to avoid the traffic and crowds.

Ive never been. Hanks is like an hour and a half from my house. Is it worth the ride? Is it one price for admission or do you pay for everything separately. I have a 2 and 5 year old. Thanks

It's so true. I live about 20 mins from Harbes orchard and last year we sat in traffic on Sound Ave for over 3 hours to get there. This year it wasn't as bad, but I think that's because we went earlier in the season. Once it gets into pumpkin season, it's horrendous.

See, I don't find that kind of chaos and traffic enjoyable. I sit in traffic and deal with chaos at work every day.

I hear ya. If I hadn't gotten DS's hopes up about going, we would have turned right around lol. I also kept thinking, any minute now the traffic is gonna clear up lol (I was so wrong last year).
We live so close that in the fall, we'll go out there a few times for the different activities.
We always try to go during the week for pumpkins and corn maze, but all the orchards I've found aren't open during the week, so apple picking is always one we suffer for.
Once we get there and have a glass of wine or hard cider, it usually ends up being worth it. The kids get to run around and have a good time eating apples, hot dogs and roasted corn. There's never any traffic on the way home, so the nightmare to get there is always seems like a distant memory. Which, I guess, is why we return year after year  I do want to find a new orchard though. Harbes is getting out of hand (in regards to price and quality). I don't mind paying more if the quality is there, but that's gone downhill.

Apple picking on LI
We went to Harbes on the 15th we get up and out super early and we left by 11:30. It wasn’t bad going early. Same as last year but as we were leaving we would see lines down 25A like 6-7 miles long trying to go. When we went a few weeks ago they had plenty of apples and rows open
