Before care question
What would you expect to pay for someone to watch your kindergartner from 8:00-8:40 when the bus comes? I don't need someone to come to my house. I am open to bringing her to someone's house to get on the bus...but either way, it would be about 30-40 minutes probably 2-3 mornings a week. I'm trying to decide if it is cheaper than before care at school.
ETA: Before care through BOCES at our school is $10 per day...no commitment of days but I would probably send her 2 or 3 mornings a week and have my mom and mother in law let her ride the bus 2-3 days. The most before care would cost would be $30 a week and it is tax deductible. Thanks!

Before care question
Are they feeding the child breakfast? Do they have a child of their on to drop at the bus?
If it were me and someone asked if their kid could sit in my house for 40 minutes before getting on the bus I wouldn’t take any money.

If it were me and someone asked if their kid could sit in my house for 40 minutes before getting on the bus I wouldn’t take any money.
Not really doing anything except letting her do something (play, watch tv, whatever) and then putting her on the bus. If she goes to someone's house, I would only do it with someone who has a child her age. I will feed her before she goes.

Before care question
I’d get them a gc at Christmas as a thank you and maybe send cookies or something for the family once in a while. Or a coffee for the parent here and there.
I couldn’t imagine asking for money for that.

Our before care is $10 a day...I could drop her off at 7am, but I never will as I have two others to put on the bus and I work at her school so I don't have to be there that early! Nothing is provided for breakfast and it is really just glorified babysitting, but that's ok with me!

Before care question
I would pay monthly-- maybe $150 - $200 a month. But I can barely get myself together in the morning so although its not a long amount of time-- to have to worry about another child in my house in the morning I probably would not be willing to do it as a regular thing.

Oof! $10 a day for nothing is a lot. I definitely think anyone watching your kid (even if it's barely watching and for 30 minutes) should get some sort of compensation... maybe like $100/$150 a month?

I’ve been doing this for my neighbor for 4 years (our girls are in 3rd together now). I’ve never even been offered money, so I’m not sure what’s typical of this, but I feel like $75-$100 seems appropriate.
Do you have plans in place for delayed openings? I’d make sure you work something out for things like that. Ohh and make sure they have a car seat for your DD, while not typical and very rare, I have had to drive them to school at the last minute and I was lucky I had an extra car seat for her.

I would just do BOCES. You don't have to worry about the other mother going on vacation, having sick kids that aren't going to school, etc.

This. I would round it to an hour and pay as I would a babysitter. Probably $15 for the morning. You are still asking someone to do you the favor and watch your kid. Last year I needed an hour after school 2x a week and I ended up having to pay someone a little more than I would normally pay bc of the few hours - it was hard to find someone without making it worth it for them

Before care sounds so much easier. I'd do that.
If you want a babysitter, then do it at your own house so at least your child can sleep in a little. Otherwise, what's the point of still leaving early but bringing your child to someone else's house instead of the school?
