DD switched to milk and is starving
DD switched to lactaid yesterday and has been doing really well. Whole milk didn't work and she had an allergic reaction, which was somewhat expected as she was on alimentum formula for the same reason. Her poop is normal again and she's been very happy, except she has been STARVING all day and all she wants is milk.
My pediatrician said only 16oz of milk, but she was drinking around 28oz of formula before (4 bottles, 7 oz each). She eats food, but she's still pretty picky, only has two teeth, and idk if she's eating enough to fill her up. Cutting out a bottle has made her so hungry.
She had about 20oz of milk today, but when i went to put her to bed she was screaming because she was hungry. She ate another 5oz, and went down really easy in her crib like normal. Has anyone had this problem when transitioning to milk?

Yes, though my DD went straight to whole milk. She has/has 16oz of milk, breakfast, lunch, dinner, 2 snacks and a smoothie each day. Sometimes an extra snack when we get home from daycare if she asks for it.
Can she have any dairy? I don't know what she's eating now but maybe add in an protein snack- cheese/yogurt if she can tolerate otherwise maybe crackers with peanut butter?

yeah she can eat yogurt and cheese because the proteins are broken down. She has a yogurt every morning for breakfast and never had an issue.
My schedule now is: 730am- 6oz bottle when she wakes up 830am- breakfast. yogurt, cheerios, gerber puffs. No oatmeal- she never liked it). 11am- Lunch. Grilled cheese, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, ravioli, scrambled eggs, etc. 1130- nap 130/2pm- 6oz bottle when she wakes up 430/5- dinner. Same types of food as lunch. 7/730- 7-8oz bottle for bed
Throughout the day, i'll give puffs, fruit, sippy cup with water, and other small snacks. But she is just starving

How old is she? 12 months is just an average--she may not be ready to transition from formula. If she's not eating a variety of nutritious foods, I would probably stick with formula for a bit longer. BM/formula is a complete meal--milk is just a drink.

What about offering a nutritious snack after her nap and then a little milk afterward if she still needs it? A cheese stick, peanut butter crackers, etc with some fruit. That might be a good time to try to get her to eat more solids and cut down her milk more. I've always given a lot of yogurt in the middle of the day to help fill them up. Maybe try that and introduce different things at breakfast like French toast, pancakes, eggs, waffles, etc.

she still chokes on chicken- it's very hard for her to chew, even when cut up really small. she only has her bottom two teeth and that's it. i tried peanut butter yesterday and she struggled to eat that too. i will try again tomorrow. Maybe toasting the bread with help idk

How about a "toddler formula"? I think they're a bit of a marketing ploy, but it might fit the bill for your needs. Or at least to ease the transition.

How about chicken meatballs or burgers broken up? My DD likes the ones from Iavarone. Or even regular beef meatballs?
You could also maybe try some shredded chicken in a quesadilla since she likes grilled cheese.
My DD only had her 2 bottom teeth until she was 15 months. She used to gum everything.

They don't need teeth to chew anything so it's probably more a texture thing that has her choking. You need to keep giving it so she will get used to it.

Ground chicken and turkey is easy enough to gum. Rotisserie chicken is also super tender. Meatballs are a great option also. Fish (but that's not terribly filling), pasta, sweet potatoes.
Ds is 8 mo and eats all of these, even though he only has 2 fully errupted teeth. Babies don't use their front teeth to chew anyways, and they don't finish getting molars until 2.

She can't do that because of the milk protein allergy. She was on alimentum formula, but regular formula and toddler formula would cause an allergic reaction (rash, throwing up, diarrhea)

She LOVES meatballs... Maybe I'll do a big crockpot and freeze them so I have more on hand. I will try the quesadilla idea thanks!

Try sneaking more filling foods into her favs.
Like ground meat or scrambled eggs to a quesadilla or add avocado or beans (which you can even puree)
Sweet potato or avocado fries
Banana as a snack
Fruit and yogurt smoothie with peanut butter, blend it together with a little water and ice.
Hummus and pita

I agree with this. DD only had tow teeth for a very long time and she ate everything.
Try giving her more to eat. She really shouldn't be filling up on milk.
Is she use to getting a bottle before bed? If so it maybe that she just wants a bottle before bed because that is what she is use too.
I would also maybe up her food quantity till you figure out how much you need to feed her.

This. I fed my children everything (except maybe steak) long before they had teeth. My DD is 2yo and is still getting hers in. If I waited until she had all her teeth, she would never eat.
Also, i never watched how much milk my children got. If they want more, they get more. Unless the child is overweight, I wouldn't be concerned. But first offer more solids.

Keep trying with the chicken. The lack of teeth is not a problem. My son had no teeth until he was about 13 months and ate chicken like a champ!

Re: DD switched to milk and is starving
I would add more foods but 16 oz of milk seems very little to me. Dr's can give suggestions but that may not work for every kid. If she wants a little more milk and eats some other things I wouldn't drive yourself crazy sticking to 16 oz

DD switched to milk and is starving
It seems that she has a decent diet for her age; she seems to be eating even more than my toddler - but I kept his last nighttime bottle before bed of formula during the transition for peace of mind. I selfishly didn't want him to start waking up in the middle of the night being hungry lol even though the doctor said to keep her only on milk since she transitioned, I think you can use your judgment here. I would say for the first month or so after the transition, I kept formula at home in case he didn't eat a lot that day, or didn't eat enough for dinner, etc.

Are you still offering the milk in a bottle or in a cup? When DS turned 1 we went off the bottle except for before bed which we held onto for another 2 months. Maybe she just wants the comfort of the bottle. Try giving the morning and afternoon milk in a cup and see if she is still so keen on it!

Same here, I'm SURE my DD drank more than 16 oz. of milk, still probably does at 15 months. But she eats like a champion and gains weight steadily. I always try to offer solids and water first, but if she really puts up a stink about the milk, I'll give it to her.
And same with the teeth- she was eating solids before she had any teeth and then while she only had her bottom two.

DD switched to milk and is starving
ugh so i know she ate a decent amount today (2 yogurts, grapes, cheerios, goldfish, PB&J, pizza, gerber puffs), and just drank 9oz of milk and was screaming her head off when she finished it. Tried putting her down to sleep and she cried for 30 mins to the point where she almost threw up. Dh is in there now rocking her in the chair, but she never needed that to go to sleep. I put her down awake in the crib and she normally goes right to sleep. I don't get it...

Re: DD switched to milk and is starving
Sounds to me that maybe she is using the bottle more for comfort and not necessarily hungry. What would happen if you offered her another snack after she got mad that the bottle was finished?
