How old was your DC when you switched from whole milk?

DD will be two next month. I cannot believe how fast time flies, nor can I remember when I switched to 1% milk for DS. Did you wait to get the pediatrician's approval at the two year visit? We do organic whole and organic 1% but I am thinking I want to switch her to the organic 1%.

ETA: She is 90% for height and 65% for weight.

I switched both kids to 2% instead of whole milk at the same time, when they were 3.5 and 5.5, mainly because they are both dairy freaks and love yogurts, farmer cheese, regular cheese, sour cream and anything dairy they can get their hands on, and I buy all of it at full fat. So, i was just trying to make it a little bit easier on their stomachs. However, right around that time they stopped drinking milk all together. Now I just buy whole and add it to their oatmeals, omelets etc. They never drink it straight any more...

Why are you trying to switch her to 1% so young? I think kids that age still need all the fat from the whole milk.

I always thought they only needed it until age two and then could go to 1%. I do give them full fat cheese and yogurt. Neither of my kids really love ice cream so they don't get that. I guess I worry because of the propensity to gain weight and this is an easy way to combat it.

switch both my kids to 2% once they turned 1. ADA recommends whole milk or 2% till 2, then 1% or skim after 2.

at 18m I alternate 2% with whole, only because he eats so much eggs, butter, cheese, beef.... I figure he can go a little lighter with the milk some days

I know I'm no great help... but I thought the whole urge to push 1% early was to avoid obesity and it sounds like your kid is on the THIN side.... I'd say, don't push it!

I know I drank LOTS of whole milk until I was a teenager.... and I was never overweight.

I never switched over for myself, still drink regular milk and LOVE it and hope to never switch my DD.
