Spinoff to if you would buy a new home

What would be a total deal breaker for you when choosing a new home? I have to be flexible given my relatively low price range but if a house is on a busy road or has that nasty, stale cigarette smoke smell, I'm out of there!

No double yellow line roads/busy streets

No corner house............I like having property

At this point, it HAS to be a 2 story

NO Levitt construction, I'm over it!! LOL

Main road, or road with a double yellow line.
Backs up to an industrial park.
Cigarette smell.
School 5 or below on the great schools website.

I have a corner lot and have a lot of property. Granted I am upstate so I have a decent lot size.

---------------------------

Busy road
Smoke or pet smell
No CAC
No 2 car garage
Backs up to/across the street from a school

#1 Cigarette smell. Absolute deal breaker
2. Double yellow
3. Too close to highway - (Don't want the noise)

My parents are in Suffolk, corner property with a large yard both front and back.

Mine would be cigarette smell, double yellow lines road, bad school district, and near the water.

why wouldnt corner lots have property.

My parents have a corner house and they have decent property size compared to their neighbors (they don't have tons of space but NO one in the area does)

same with me I have a corner house and I have decent size property compare to what my neighbor have

my only one would probably be a very very busy street but I did and consider houses on streets that were busy

Yes! We always had two bathrooms and then we moved into a rental with one. It was horrible! I was SO glad our house had two when we purchased.

Busy street is a big one for me. Nothing in walking distance is a deal breaker for me, too. I want to be able to walk to a train, deli, supermarket, park, etc. I'm a Queens girl at heart!

Spinoff to if you would buy a new home

- on a Busy road
- backs up to a school, church, temple, commercial building
- close enough to expressway/parkway that I hear it in my yard
- corner lot - depends how much property there is/how the house is sited, but usually isn't what I like.
- poor performing school district
- long commute from NYC
- flood zone

Re: Spinoff to if you would buy a new home

Things that can't be changed no matter what..

On a very busy road
Small lot (if the lot is big enough, you can always add whatever is missing)
"Bad" school district
No basement (yes, it can be dug out, but it's a massive expense)

Same. My corner property is actually one of the biggest plot in my neighborhood and the house is set on the property perfectly so that we have a really nice size front, back and one side yard.

Re: Spinoff to if you would buy a new home

dealbreakers---

If it's on a main road
If it has a pool
If it has no basement
If it's a high ranch or ranch
If it requires major updates
If there's no master bathroom
If there's a detached garage or just one car garage

Any ONE of those would cause me to walk.

By me, the corner houses have very shallow back yards.

In my neighborhood, the corner lots have a skinny, shallow backyard. It's MUCH smaller than my backyard and I want space for the kids, their toys, and a pool down the road. Usually corner houses have large side yards, at least where I am, so that's why it's on my list of deal breakers.
