weight watchers- meetings or online-only?

Never done WW, but I need to get on some sort of diet to lose the last 10-15 lbs of baby weight. Does it really work? And are the meetings worthwhile, or can I do just as well by using the online system?

I do it. It really does work if you plan your meals according to the plan. I do meetings but I need that accountability.I weigh in every week but stay for the meeting only about once per month.

Re: weight watchers- meetings or online-only?

I did online and lost about 30lbs. when I really held myself accountable. Now I'm sort of "cruising" - not counting points and staying at the same weight until I get another wave of motivation to lose more. I did online. I really didn't want to schlep somewhere and could do without all the chit chat. I'm an introvert though!

Re: weight watchers- meetings or online-only?

It depends on the person. I needed the meetings to stay on track. I tried online and fell off the wagon. I did WW before my wedding 6 yrs ago. It really worked

I've recently lost weight from using myfitnesspal and then when I hit a plateau with that, I started the dr Oz day off diet.
I'm kinda stuck again and am considering WW but I'm too cheap lol

Good luck w it. WW really does work when you follow it.

For me, it doesn't work, just my personality. I don't have that accountability on my own. I have a VERY hard time dieting. Even when I dieted with my husband for our wedding, he sticks to it, me, I see something and eat it. I have 10lbs of baby weight to lose as well and it's going to be hard for me. I've always had an extra 5-10lbs but never have been overweight for my height so I just don't have the drive, I'm always like it's only an extra 5lbs. That being said, many of my family and friends have used it, loved it and have succeeded!

I dont see WW as a diet plan. I see it is a lifestyle change and learning how to have healthy portions, incorporating LOTS of fresh fruits and veggies and moderation with higher calorie foods

I'm doing online only and was able to lose all my pregnancy weight within 5 months. I love the app!

I use the old WW points and write everything I eat down. If I don't keep track of every single thing, I don't lose as much weight. Not eating out helps a lot!!! I'm going back on as soon as I get home from my trip

I've done both and have always been more successful going to meetings. You are held accountable when you actually go weigh in somewhere. I also always think that it gives me inspiration hearing others stories of success and I like the feedback I get when I'm in a rut and ask for advice. It really does work, but you have to stick with it and really track everything you eat.

Re: weight watchers- meetings or online-only?

After I had my 3rd dc I joined weight watchers online. It was hard for me to get to the weekly meetings with 3 kids so I opted for online only. I followed the plan as best I could and it took me a whole year but I went from a tight size 14 to a 6 sometimes size 4. I made sure to weigh in weekly at home and actually enjoyed reading through the online chat forum for inspiration.

I'm doing online only and it's working well. I like this plan Smartpoints). I did the meetings a couple of years ago on one of the older plans and did horribly.

Re: weight watchers- meetings or online-only?

It worked for me. I did it twice. First losing 35 and than losing 25. I have to go to meetings other wise I fall off the wagon. The ap is great and it's very helpful with steering you towards better foods. I never view it as a diet plan it's really a life style. No foods are off limits.

Re: weight watchers- meetings or online-only?

I did online. I was very motivated and would prefer to save the $$ and put it toward my new skinny clothes.

I lost 50 lbs and kept it off, but I agree with a PP that it has to be a lifestyle change and not a diet.

It worked for me. I did it after having DS. The weight came off slowly, so while it's not a quick fix, it does work. I went to meetings at first but it got expensive I switched to online. Some people need the meetings to hold them accountable for that weekly weigh in.

Re: weight watchers- meetings or online-only?

I do it, weigh-ins and meetings work for me. If I stop going to meetings, I stop losing. I'll maintain but it doesn't give that drive to lose if I'm not actually going to weigh-in. I'm down 62 as of now, just hit my one-year anniversary on WW (2/14).

just started two days ago (online only for now). So far, I feel pretty good, but definitely hungrier than normal. Is that something that will change in a week or so when my body gets used to it? Also, how long did it take for you to start dropping weight with the smartpoints program?

I have been on weight watchers twice. The first time, I lost 125 lbs in about 16 months. My health took a nasty turn and I was put on steroids for a year and gained most of it back. This time, I am about 11 months in and I'm down 55lbs. A little slower but I am older now and can't exercise like I was before, but its still working.

I have to go to the meetings. For me, its the only way I will stay on track. I am not a big talker, but hearing everyones stories keeps me motivated. And the recognition of losing is encouraging. My husband certainly isn't going to clap for me if I lose 5 lbs. You don't have to talk at all at the meetings, that was always one of my biggest worries. I like having an "official" weigh in because at home I will just make excuses.

I was hungry at first but after the first week or so, my body adjusted. Eat small frequent meals so that you're not going too long without food. And add more protein.

I started losing right away. 6lbs the first week. Definitely less the second week, but steadily lost every week, even if sometimes it's .5 .

I am a WW member for year now. It works and it isn't a diet, but a lifestyle. I weigh in every week and stay for the meetings. The meetings help me as they are my end and start point in one week is over a a new week is here. I have made so many friends in the meeting and we support each other both in the meeting and outside. By attending the meeting, I also find I created such a connection to the leader and they get to know you and can help you through challenges. The biggest part of the meetings is accountability, which I need. To hear others successes is motivational and struggles let you know you aren't alone. Good luck!

I went to my second meeting on Saturday. I find that I need the accountability of going to a meeting. I have also already heard others stories that make me more motivated - like, hey,if she can do it, so can I.

In general, so far I have found it pretty easy to stick with and haven't really been hungry with no points left. I do find that I spend a lot more time grocery shopping - put much more thought into what I buy, and more time planning out my meals for the day. Good luck to you!
