FYI any parents whose kids go to Tutor Time in Ronkonkoma

The wording of the violations not always exactly what happened. I'm in no way saying that any of this is ok but they have to fit the various violations into a cookie cutter system.

My daycare received a very minor violation but based on the code wording it sounded much worse.

The good thing here is that they were cited and its being taken care of

Re: FYI any parents whose kids go to Tutor Time in Ronkonkoma

I have never joined any of these groups for the reason which is so obviously stated below, these forums are filled with bored SAHM who have nothing better to do than gossip about half heard stories.
My 1.5 year old son attends Tutor Time in Ronkonkoma and there was a self reported incident in his classroom this Friday. The school was closed, education provided and terminations completed.
No form of child care is perfect but what I can tell you is that all I could ask for is any incident to be reported and a solution provided which it was. The staff at Tutor Time love my son like he is their own and as working parents that is all we could ask for.
Any governmental agencies online reports always read much worse than they are but if this gives you something to do this morning then I am happy for you. For those of you who do not have children attending this school where are your children while you are playing detective? Eating ****** snacks and occupied with an iPad? My 1.5 year old says please and thank you and counts in both english and Spanish...he is probably on his way to art class right about now at this "terrible, awful, shut down" place, so if you don't know the facts stop being a mean girl and spreading gossip, its bad for the soul.

Pretty sure this is uncalled for and your spew of hate and self assurance only makes me think you have doubt on whether or not you should be sending your child there. If you feel comfortable then why the need to make a fake profile and go off on a tangent to people who made no remarks towards any parents who still brought their kids. Sounds like you needed to reassure yourself of your decision by lashing out here. Good luck to you and your family. Happy Holidays!

Denial is usually a defense mechanism.

As for my kid, she's currently at her daycare that has 0 violations, like literally none, while she speaks in full sentences like she's done since she was 16 months old, thanks in part to her awesome teachers.

This is very true. When working in daycare we received a violation for a small tear in a changing pad. The violation said the diaper area was not cleaned. That the diaper area was unsafe and babies could not be changed in a clean manner. None of that really applied to the actual violation but that is what was closet so they just choose that. If I was a parent at this school I'd want an exact description of the event. I think you need to know what happened before yiu can make a decision.

And it sounds like a canned, copy-paste message. I think the discussion on here was actually very civil, and most of the people here said that the reports often seem much worse than the actual issue, so let's wait and see what happens.

That's why I think parents need to find out exactly what happened and I believe the state should post it on their website but they won't. If it's a one teacher/staff incident or is this something that many staffers are apart of.

Well aren't you a charm. You sound like the Mom in the group who couldn't be bothered with the reported info. Praising them hand over mouth. Lovely of you to create this acct and come here and be a witch. Yay. Thank goodness you don't join theses groups to spew hate. Thank goodness.

I think the same thing. I can't imagine any parent defending such serious violations so adamantly.

Reminds me of the time there was a bed bug discussion about Great Wolf Lodge and some mysterious new poster with no posts came on singing their praises and calling us all out for trash talking the place

Then she sent me a nasty FM which I publicly posted for all to see.

Yeah, seems legit...

Wow. Talk about having nothing better to do. I for one am glad you didn't join this forum until today...hopefully your first and last post. You're the only judgemental one. You come off in your post as just that. So stay away. Por favor and gracias.

Funny how you NEVER join these groups but you knew enough to look up this particular post on this particular group. Let's be real here--either you are a regular poster whose child attends this daycare or you are in some way affiliated with the daycare. If not you really need to reread your post and get the hell off you Sanctimommy soap box and take you campaign to stand up for this daycare some where else--as for us bored SAHMs--HA!! Working is much easier than being a stay at home parent of a toddler.

Why are there are always trolls when something newsworthy is stated on here. There was no viscous attacks and most of us have kids in other daycares. Mine had several violations which the center was more than happy to explain to me. Corporal punishment is not a term the state uses lightly nor is the extensive list of other violations.

FYI any parents whose kids go to Tutor Time in Ronkonkoma

I have waited almost a week to speak anywhere about this, but I need to get it out.

My 19 month old daughter was in the room where the most serious violations took place. My husband and I have met with OCFS and are still waiting for the investigation to be completed - as of yet she hasn't been named as a victim of any so-called "mishandling" (as described by the director) or "corporal punishment" (as described by the state). I have been warned that I may never know for sure.

One thing I know to be true is that during one of the worst weeks of my life, the only thing more painful than having the most primal form of trust - trusting your child in the hands of another - betrayed...was having to read countless threads of people saying "I could never send my child there again" and "thats why I stay FAR away from Tutor Time, those places are a nightmare."

I have removed my child from the program, but it's a lot easier to type out "I would never send my child back - there are daycares all over long island" than it is to try and wrap your mind around putting your toddler through a huge change like that. It wasn't an easy decision for us and thankfully our old daycare has taken us back with open arms and she is readjusting beautifully.

Sorry this got so long - My main point IS that behind these stories that float around on Facebook and boards like this as juicy gossip are anguished parents who love their children just as much as you love yours. Parents who are working and doing the best they can.

I beg that at the next childcare drama to hit the airwaves, you choose your words more carefully. Someone might be reading them on the worst day of their life.

I agree. But corporal punishment?

418-1.9(j) Corporal punishment is prohibited. For the purposes of this Subpart, the term corporal punishment means punishment inflicted directly on the body including, but not limited to, physical restraint, spanking, biting, shaking, slapping, twisting or squeezing; demanding excessive physical exercise, prolonged lack of movement or motion, or strenuous or bizarre postures; and compelling a child to eat or have in the child's mouth soap, foods, hot spices or irritants or the like. Not Corrected

Based on the description here, I'm going to make the most positive assumption that I can and say that they made a child stand in a corner for an excessive amount of time, or stand still, away from the activity as a method of discipline. I want to believe that no child was hit, and I think it's fairly easy to believe because we haven't heard of a mom murdering a daycare worker in Ronkonkoma, right?

All that said, I used to have my kids in a Tutor Time (different location) and it was a great place when they were there. And I think most of us who are parents can imagine a scenario where we have to go to work in order to put food on the table and may have to deal with a sub-par situation for a few days or whatever period of time before we find alternative day care arrangements for our children. I have certainly been in that situation - and I cried every day until I was able to move my kids - so I know how hard it is.

Sorry that you had to go thru that. In my experience any topic that affects you personally is hard to read about on a chat board or Newsday.com, Facebook etc. People are going to talk on chat boards and in real life, and of course they will have a different perspective than those who are personally affected. I don't think that anyone on here said anything that is over the top offensive about the situation here. However, I agree in all situations like this it is good to keep in mind that there are real people behind the news story - real families struggling. People should be mindful of that on here and in real life.
