I've deposited checks for more than I had available and it just takes a few days for the check to clear and the funds to become available in your account.

Are you asking if a bank will let you deposit a check from a 3rd party in your own account for more money than you currently have in your own account?

I would think you can deposit the check but it will take several days for it to clear. Why wouldnt they accept a check if it was being deposited?

You cannot cash it, but you should be able to deposit it. You may have to wait up to 10 days for the check to clear before it will hit your account.

Ohhhh I totally read that wrong. Crazy one hereeeeeeeeeee. LOL. Yes, they will. They'll prob just put a special day hold on it (Used to be 11 business days, not sure if it still is)

Yes! This is what I thought.
You proably can't get it in cash until it clears- unless you have the money in your acct to cover it- but you can deposit it and it wont' be available in cash until it clears the person who wrote its account

You can't cash it, but you can deposit it.
You wouldn't have the full funds available until the check clears.

right!!!!??!? I sometimes worry how my mother thinks lol!! If IM writing the check and I have the funds in MY checking account why the hell wouldnt the bank let her deposit it in HER account?!!
I question my own sanity way too often

You mean if you have 2k and someone gives you a check for 10k, can you cash it? I think the other posters are responding as if you wrote a check for 10k but only have 2k available.
My bank (BOA) wouldn't cash it for me, unless it was was written from another BOA account. They would let me deposit it though and most would be available right away, then after a day or so the whole amount would be available.

No problem at all. They might have part of it available immediately even. The rest they'll have to wait until it clears.

No issue. My parents, back in the day, had me deposit an even a higher amt into my bank acct. You dont have to have 5 smaller checks lol. Just go with her. Shes just nervous about the high amt and if theyre going to give her a hard time.
