Re: Back Yard Pool - Kids visiting
I would never leave my DD at someone's pool without me- even if they were going to be staying outside the whole time. The only eyes that I trust to watch my DD in a pool are mine or my DH's.. Period

There is no way I would ever not have an adult by the pool.

Same. I don't trust anyone. People can easily be distracted with cell phones, chatter. No way. Your friend sounds utterly irresponsible to trust 7 kids to tend to themselves in a body of water.

Pool rules with our family and friends are, No kids in or by the pool without a parent present. You don't want to sit on the deck, your kid can't go in the water. So no I wouldn't have sent my son.

I completely think you did the right thing. The kiddos may have been dissapointed but it was AWFUL of that mom to think it was okay to leave them alone

I wouldn't even be comfortable taking a bathroom break without another adult watching the pool!
Sorry, your friend is insane and that's an accident waiting to happen.

You did the right thing. I wouldn't have been comfortable in that situation either. Even if all the kids can swim, kids can get rough in the pool and...well, you know. Adult supervision 100% of the time, no question about it.

Yep!! Yesterday I had family over and my dad was up on the pool deck watching the kids. He wanted to go use the bathroom so he asked me to go up there until he got back. And we were all in the yard, but not up next to the pool. And all of the kids had puddle jumpers on. No way should kids EVER be left unattended for even 30 seconds in the pool. I don't care if they are Olympic level swimmers.

Re: Back Yard Pool - Kids visiting
7 kids under 10 swimming without supervision??? That is a scary thought. I don't think even 1 adult is enough.

Back Yard Pool - Kids visiting
Oh no way!!! Kids who can swim can also drown! And I agree with whomever said with 7 kids in the pool I'd want another adult nearby.

Re: Back Yard Pool - Kids visiting
My youngest is 13 and when she has friends, I still sit outside---not right in their faces--- but out by the pool.

Re: Back Yard Pool - Kids visiting
My children are 8 and 10 and both are very strong swimmers. I don't allow them to stay in the pool by themselves if I have to run into the house. I would never leave children that age by themselves.

Re: Back Yard Pool - Kids visiting
Yikes, it's scary that a parent would think kids that age do not need supervision. Good thing you asked. I think most people would just assume that a parent will be watching.

Always stay outside for the entire duration kids are in pool. Is there really any other answer?

Back Yard Pool - Kids visiting
When I was younger and my mom had to go in to go to the bathroom - I had to get out of the pool.
There always should be direct supervision.

Re: Back Yard Pool - Kids visiting
You always need an adult outside watching kids in the pool. Frankly, no adult should swim alone either. This is an accident waiting to happen. I have personally rescued two drowning children when their parents were not paying attention to their kids while at pools. It sickens me to think that had I not been there with my own children, these kids could have died. So I think you did the right thing.
