Re: Am I crazy? Bachelorette party
I personally would be fine with it but I understand that maybe not all people would be. But, me and my g/f's all had destination Bach parties (Vegas, house on Fire Island, Ocean City, AC, etc) so to me, $120 for dinner and maybe another $100 at a bar is not a lot but everyone's different.

Am I crazy? Bachelorette party
I don't think it's a horrible price. These wild bachelorette parties in Mexico or Miami for like 5 days are crazy!!! Those I would never go on! My friends bachelorette party is in AC and would be $300 pp to stay, dinner, and any extra $$ if needed. I'm not going as I'll be 24 weeks with the twins but I have no problem going. My friend who I'm a bridesmaid for in the already crazy $$ wedding I've posted about before- her bachelorette party will be another good $400+ so far I know it will be in the city. It's crazy expensive lately I totally get it! I just try and remember that for mine they went all out dinner, hotel, pole dancing and bars in NYC and I didn't have to pay a dime so if I can go, I will

Am I crazy? Bachelorette party
I personally don't think its excessive but I just booked a bachelorette party to NOLA and I'll be spending a ton. I kind of wish this bachelorette was just a dinner!

Re: Am I crazy? Bachelorette party
I think it's a lot - with or without drinks! However if it includes drinks and tip then I wouldn't say it's unreasonable. DH and I go out to a steakhouse and get apps, entree, dinner and a bottle of wine for about $250 so I cannot imagine what you are all ordering that it would be $120 per person WITHOUT drinks.

Re: Am I crazy? Bachelorette party
I'm assuming you're either going to an upscale restaurant or kitschy bachelorette type of place. While I do think it's a little high for no drinks, I don't think it's ridiculous. My suggestion is this... Either go along with it or come up with another option. You can't complain about something without offering a reasonable alternative. If you don't want to, or don't have the time to come up with another game plan, then I think you should just suck it up. I totally get that you have a lot of other expenses. And the fact that you probably resent the bridesmaids for falling short of their responsibilities with the shower. But at the end of the day, it's your sister.

Re: Am I crazy? Bachelorette party
But the $120 includes drinks AT dinner right? Like a glass or 2 of wine each, a cocktail?
If so, that isn't so outrageous for a nice restaurant, especially in NYC

Re: Am I crazy? Bachelorette party
$120 for ONLY dinner and nothing else? Way excessive and personally, I'd decline. I could see spending $120 for dinner, some drinks, and maybe cover at a bar. But just dinner? Nope. That's going to end up being a very expensive evening out because you'll likely need to get some sort of transportation to the bar afterwards, and pay for the bride's drinks, and possibly a cover charge at the bars, and your own drinks. So, add at least another $100 if not more to that $120 for just dinner. At that price, you could have done plenty of other things.

I want to know exactly what it includes
You said no drinks? Not even sodas? No wine
Is it family style. Is it dessert

See I think there is confusion because she said - just for food, no drinks AFTERWARDS.
I would assume "dinner" included drinks (wine, beer, cocktails, whatever) but that the price didn't include the drinks AFTER dinner- at a bar, club, whatever.

Re: Am I crazy? Bachelorette party
That price doesn't seem bad at all if it's a nice place and if it's including the brides portion. I do think there are much better options for a bach party that would at least include some alcohol though. Are they willing to look at other places?

So if someone wants a glass of wine or a cocktail with dinner, that's an additional charge - in addition to the $120 per person?
Because I can't imagine going to dinner and not having at least a glass of wine.

$120 each for dinner is excessive imo. I don't think $100 is too much to put in for a bridal shower thou.
ETS: I'm so glad I'm passed all these bachelorette parties since all my friends are married. Otherwise I'd probably have no friends left because I would be declining left and right at these prices and getaways.

Am I crazy? Bachelorette party
I dunno I haven't been to a bachelorette party in a long time and never one on the same day so that's why I'm asking if this is normal. To me it seems a little excessive but it could just be the fact that I'm footing the whole bill for the shower, traveling from out of state and needing to pay for hotel reservations while i have to deal with this one local bridesmaid complain she cant pitch in for the bridal shower but has all this money to blow on the bachelorette party. She even went as far to say that if need be we can tone down the bachelorette party so it won't be expensive for all of us and yet suggests a private room for each guest to pay 120 plus alcohol. I told her main dining room will be just fine especially if we are still going out afterwards. I dunno maybe I'm just moody from being pregnant and not wanting to even attend at this point. And then we have to pay for transportation on top of it. I hate bridal parties

Yea, sorry, but if she didnt have the money to pitch in for the shower but suddenly has $120 to splurge on JUST dinner, plus additional for transportation and drinks, I'd be moody too and I don't think I could bite my tongue. I'd be the b!tch that flat out says "sorry, but considering I'm paying for the entire shower earlier that afternoon, I cant justify spending $120 on just dinner. Lets find a way to make this more affordable for everyone involved." But I'm pregnant too, so maybe we're both moody

I don't think it has to do with being pregnant - I'd say the same thing. She's asking too much of you and if I were you, I'd say something

Re: Am I crazy? Bachelorette party
I think it is fine for a bachelorette dinner. I have attended quite a few of varying budgets. Cheapest being drinks at a bar in Farmingdale where each person probably spent $25. It is pretty normal to go out for nice dinner and drinks/clubbing afterwards. People on budgets sometimes opt out. I know one of my friends in Chicago had a bachelorette party with limo, private table at a club, the works. A few people just came to stop by at the club because the $300 or whatever pp cost was too much for them. It was fine.
The last bachelorette I attended was in Vegas where we got a huge suite, did private spa, fancy dinner, multiple clubs, etc. that cost thousands per person. $120 local dinner sounds good to me.

yeah that's kind of crappy of the bridesmaid to do... have you looked into other places similar to this one where you can still do a private room/dinner for the girls? maybe there is somewhere with a better deal

Me too. She has the money when it's something she wants to do but not the shower. You are paying a lot if you go along with it. Could you skip dinner and meet them after for drinks? It's complicated since you are OOS.
Otherwise, I would have no problem saying something about picking a more reasonable dinner option. I can't imagine how just the meal without alcohol could be so expensive unless you are in an overpriced city restaurant.
