forwarding mail opinion
We bought our house 2 years ago and the previous owners are still having packages delivered to our house. The guy owns his own business that was partially run out of the house and those are the packages we tend to get. However, I came home yesterday to see a package for his wife from The Loft (and it definitely felt like a piece of clothing).
At first we were ok with it - we'd just text the guy to let him know there's a package and leave it on the porch. But 2 years later we're past being over it. The guy had 2 large company packages delivered 2 months ago and we left them in from of the garage (getting wet), and the wife had another article of clothing delivered 3 months ago (that one was UPS and when my husband tried to call to have it returned, the company called the previous owner and had a 3 way call about the package).
I hope they'll get the message after yesterday's package - I scribbled the address out, wrote "no longer at this address" and dropped it in a UPS box to be shipped back to the company! DS cracked me up - when he saw that it was for the previous owner, he almost threw it in the trash!
Part of me wonders if there's something weird going on and they don't feel comfortable having packages delivered to their new home, but I can't believe it hasn't sunk in by now that we're annoyed.
How long would you think it acceptable to receive someone else's packages before being really annoyed?

Packages? Never. They can easily change that for every purchase they make. So in my eyes no excuse.
Regular mail, maybe 6 months. Because you never know what is coming. But packages you know are coming and you know you are sending them to the wrong place.
Unless youre just stupid and keep on forgetting to change them. Which if they are, by dealing with them you are just stringing them along and prolonging the behavior.
I would have long ago rejected the packages or left them on the stoop with a 'not at this address' even if it was in the middle of a rainstorm.

Re: forwarding mail opinion
We still get mail for the old owners of our house and we have been in the house for 6 years now. I just write "return to sender, doesn't live here". It's just annoying that even after all this time we still get their mail occasionally... I notice it happens more when our regular mail guy is out on vacation. He is usually good about catching stuff addressed to them.

Wow! 2 years! You guys have a lot of patience. That would annoy me to no end. Not fair of them at all. I hope they get the hint now.

We're in our house 3 years and they clearly still have not changed their address with the DMV as his registration and red light tickets show up in the mail occasionally. I just write RTS and put it back in the mail. I stopped texting them to let them know after a year.

I would tell them from this point forward that you are returning any package/mail that is delivered to sender. Plain and simple and hopefully they will get the point.

I could see if it was junk mail - we just throw presorted stuff away, but definitely not packages! DH almost threw away a letter that didn't look like junk mail, but I ended up writing "return to sender". What's doubly annoying is that I'm not crazy about our mail carrier. She'll just put that mail right back in the mailbox! After the last time she did that, I stuck a giant post it note on the letter and in all caps said that she needs to stop delivering stuff for the previous owners. Maybe now she'll get the hint as to why I don't leave her anything during the holidays!

I'd write off the first one as a mistake... I've almost sent packages to my old address right after we moved because it was the default address. But multiple times ?!? Heck no!
