Birthday gift question... WWYD?
So I am friends with 2 other women. We have become close a few years ago bc our DS's were in the same preschool together.
Anyway, this year we all turned 40. For friend1 the other woman and I took her to a nice dinner (it's a BYO so we brought a bottle of wine) and then went to a bar after. We also bought her a bracelet around $100 so $50 each. We usually do smaller, but figured it's our 40th this year. Friend2 - her birthday was early May. We have plans to take her out next week. She is also having a big party next month for herself. Now here's the thing. Friend1 said we should get her 2 gifts. Spend about $50 each and take her out then get her a gift next month that's big since also our husbands are invited (we are all friends too and have hung out together with the DH's). My thought is to take out friend2 for dinner and drinks, but to spend more on a gift and give it to her at the party next month and just tell her. WWYD? Get two gifts or just get an even nicer gift from you and DH and she does the same? Thanks!

There's really nothing wrong with either plan. I'd probably just do 1 gift at the party, but neither is wrong.

I don't think the gift for your friend's birthday has to correspond with the events. Put simply, it doesn't matter how many times or how big you celebrate, get her whatever gift you were going to get her. I'm not sure i view the fact that her DH is throwing her a party necessitates a larger gift, its a celebration, not paying for a party.

Does she know about the party or is it a surprise? If its a surprise not giving a gift when you go out to dinner might tip her off. If she knows about the party I would give one nice gift then and nothing for dinner.. maybe flowers or bottle of wine at most.

I should add she's throwing the party for herself so she definitely knows.
