Federal Court---Central Islip
Does anyone know how hard it is to get an excusal? DH got the summons for Federal Jury Duty to call at the end of May and he has a low number so I am worried that he'll be one of the first rounds that will have to show up. Problem is that if he gets put on a case, his employer will not pay him (works for a small body shop with only 4 employees) There will be no way to pay everything on my salary alone. Any insight will be appreciated. TIA!

I doubt he will be able to get excused from appearing, but if he is questioned for a case and tells the judge/attorneys that it would be a hardship for him, they probably would dismiss him

This.
Though I'm not 100% sure if he will be dismissed for a hardship. It's tough with jury duty because unfortunately everyone has a hardship to a certain degree

Everyone had a hardship. Employers don't pay and most people losing a salary would cause a hardship.
He should go and see if he even gets picked for a case. If he even gets questioned to be one a case I would bring it up then.

I got questioned for a 3+ week trial. I would have only been paid for 5 days (2 of which was just for jury selection). I explained to them that we have 2 kids and a mortgage and couldn't afford losing the pay. The judge let me go on the spot.
