very wealthy look younger-random post
I have a work contact who I found out was 60, she is exceptionally wealthy and I would swear on a bible she's 40.
Do you guys think the very wealthy don't age like us regular folk? BTW she is not botoxed up or face lifted (I mean, if she is it's the best surgery i've never seen). She just glows and has the flexibility of a 20 year old. Sigh.
I've had this discussion before with dh who grew up around some trust fund kids despite being poor. In his opinion because the wealthy don't "labor" or have the stress of getting rent paid on time plus they can spa/massage/vacation whenever=less aging of the body.
Nobody get your panties in a wad, not trying to stir the pot just a random observation and probably massive jealousy

No one jump on me either but I've always thought money breeds money. Hundreds of years ago the rich married the best looking people and had rich attractive kids who breed too. A lot of the time in old money lineage you find attractive people who age well. Just an idea.

No matter who you are, your skin looses it's elasticity as you age. Some more than others. But it happens to all of us.
So I think it's just they have the funds for the best dermatologist, creams, peels, fillers, etc.

Re: very wealthy look younger-random post
i really believe that at the end of the day it's a messy combination of genetics, having the right resources, and what we do with our lives.
if the same lady had decided to party hard, because she had the funds to pay her rent and not worry about it... she would probably look rough.
i know someone who is about two to three years older than i am. she comes from serious money... she looks like she could be my mom. she partied HARD in her youth and LOVED the sun... oh, and she was so obsessed with being "perfect" that she had an eating disorder.

Stress and worry=aging.Money=much less stress and worry and the means to take excellent care of one's appearance.
Makes sense to me!

Re: very wealthy look younger-random post
it takes money to invest in your health, even naturally. what you eat, how and where and when you can workout, stress vs. more vacations or pamperings, spending money on well fitting clothes and at the salon, doctors visits and quality healthcare.
not to toot my own horn, but i honestly look like a celebrity when i have my hair and makeup professionally done and can spend $1,000s on well fitting quality clothing. but since i dont have that money, that happens like, once every 5 years?? every other day i look like a complete homeless bum!!
money does make an appearance in looks, yes.

Partially, I'm sure, but I'm 45 and people tell me all the time they think I'm in my mid-30s. I don't do much by way of taking care of my skin (other than daily moisturizer), but I waited until 38 to have DS and I've avoided sun on my face for 20 years.

Yes, this is true. If you have food scarcity in the maternal line for a grandmother or mother, pre puberty, this has been established to alter the maternal genetics passed down to her grandchildren. So, if your boss came from money, and her family before her did too, her cortisol stress hormones will be better than someone else whose family linkage had food scarcity or extreme stress and trauma as a child.
Couple this with the fact that she has money to take care of her self and to relax with, she and any future progeny will be more relaxed and better looking.

Same for me. I'm 41 (42 this May) and people can never believe it. I think it's 90% genes. My grandma died when she was 94 and she looked way younger than that. And my mom is in her 70's and she looks way younger too.

I think your DH is right but I also think that w money comes access to treatments and products the average person cannot afford. My BFF works at a premier spa in Long Island and they have unbelievable treatments that help wealthy people look young and not face lifts but fillers, facials etc. good Botox and fillers aren't always noticeable

Re: very wealthy look younger-random post
Yes and no.
I think it's more about prevention (diet, excercice, stay out of sun) than treatment (expensive creams)
There could be poorer people with good genes, use very little cosmetics (soap water moisturizer only) don't drink or smoke and use plants for medicine who stay looking young.
Then there are rich people who drink smoke and sunbathe and have bad genes.

Re: very wealthy look younger-random post
Definitely genes.
Also your food choices show on your skin IMO. People with money tend to eat better quality and healthier food (I can probably find stats to back this up.) I know there have been articles to to contrary but good quality produce, etc, is not in the reach of everyone but I definitely see a difference in my skin when I'm exercising regularly and eating well. And exercise is another thing that someone who's struggling to stay afloat financially may not have time for.

This. And even though she doesn't look botoxed etc- if you have a great cosmetic surgeon or dermo they can make it look very natural. Look at Christie Brinkley. She doesn't look over done but we all know she has work done.
Money can't prevent gravity and loss of collagen etc.

Agreed!
Also, the funds to buy the best food - all organic & natural, you know all the crazy expensive stuff!

Re: very wealthy look younger-random post
I think more money can mean an easier, healthier life, access to better quality food, better medical care, skin care, spa vacations, hiring people to do everything for you. I think it can also be stressful to have that much money, i.e bad investments, failed business deals, losing money and connections, etc. I don't think wealthy people get a free pass when it comes to aging. I think they have access to top plastic surgeons who can turn back the clock a little if needed. I believe it's all genetic.

Yes, I agree but ultimately I think genetics override everything. At the end of the day, some people (despite any money they spend or routines they follow) will age like cr@p. Others might do and spend less and look great. Genetics.
As an example, my grandma is almost 90............she barely has a wrinkle. She seriously does NOT look almost 90!! My mom is 60 and she also barely has a wrinkle, I'm 41 and my skin doesn't look any different than it did 10-15 years ago. I'm not wealthy nor do I put much effort into my skincare routine, I'm just fortunate enough to have good skin genetics.
So while wealthy people might be lucky enough to stress less, have better lotions, or eat better food you can't beat genetics, they will be the ultimate factor in how you age.

I agree with this. I believe a lot of it has to do with genetics and they would only "breed" with more attractive people. I know some wealthy people that straight up abuse themselves (smoking, too much sun, drinking etc) so they look a lot older than they really are. I think there are people like that in every demographic though.

I definitely believe stress effects skin, but I wouldn't be shocked if this work contact regularly went for Botox, fillers and laser treatments/chemical peels. These things can be done conservatively where people would have no idea other than that you look good for your age.

I think they are raised to eat the right foods , excercise, and maintain their weight (even throughout pregnancy). Just this alone keeps skin from sagging and looking old. Top it off with the right hair cut, clothes and make up, a person could look much younger. Not having financial stress and knowing you have family money to fall back on would keep old age at bay too.

That's fascinating! I also agree with most people that it is a combination of things, because I know people of average wealth who look young for their age too, but it does seem more prominent in the wealthy.
In additional to everything else that has been said, a lot of time, when people are wealthy, and part for that type of society, there is more emphasis on appearance & health, too.

I hadn't even thought about the whole marrying good lookers thing. I think that's a great point.
When pp mentioned rich partying and wrecking themselves, I immediately thought of Charlie Sheen. hot mess
