Where wouldn't you travel to right now?

What countries/cities would you avoid traveling to right now, if any?

MY DH has to fly into Frankfurt, Germany next week for business and I'm REALLY freaked out about it now after everything that is happening in Brussels. I wish he didn't have to go, I don't feel comfortable with the idea of him traveling abroad right now. Chat Icon

Parts of the south if I were traveling with DH.

Too much anti-Muslim sentiment being spouted lately. Not worth the risk to head to redneck territory.

None. I have no intention of getting pregnant, so I'm not worried about Zika and I certainly wouldn't avoid travel because of the bombing in Brussels. NYC isn't exactly at the bottom of the bombing list and I don't plan on quitting my job so it doesn't really make a difference to me.

I wouldn't go to North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Syria. Probably Not Turkey. Our family friend just lost his brother in the Istanbul bombing.

Brazil for the zika outbreak.

I would still go to Europe, but I'm a very anxious person in general and would be anxious while there I'm sure.

Adding Northern Africa..actually almost all of Africa.
Ukraine
Russia
Parts of Mexico

Why Arizona?
And Florida because of Zika? It's there?

Why would "redneck territory" be a risk to your DH? Are you insinuating that all people in certain parts down south are anti-muslim? Real question here. Not meant to start drama.

Most of the Middle East
Turkey
Ukraine
Russia
Northern Africa
Nigeria
Congo
Dem. Republic of Congo
Somalia
Sudan and South Sudan
El Salvador
Pakistan and other -stan countries ( I guess this goes with the Middle East or Russia?)

I wouldn't really avoid Western Europe because I kind of can't. I feel OK in Munich. I do think if there were a terror attack here it would be in Berlin or maybe Frankfurt. But I feel the chances of that would be really slim.

I think the risk of terrorism in the western world is slim compared to other countries. We just hear about it more.

Well, if you asked me this a week ago, I would've said no where with Zika, but I literally booked a trip to PR last Saturday for this weekend, THEN realized a few hours later they have Zika there. I was thisclose to cancelling, but I spoke with the hotel, and a few people about the mosquito situation at the beach, and I feel okay now. We will just skip the rainforest, which my DD really wanted to do, but oh well. I am packing an arsenal of bug spray and bug bands, and hoping for the best!

We're an interracial, interfaith couple. Considering that a handful of his relatives have been victims of hate crimes in the past couple of months while in the south, yes, it is a risk to us.

These relatives have lived in the south for many years and never had an issue. Now things are stirring up politically and things are being said by a particular public figure - there is more than likely a direct correlation.

Things have always felt a bit different to us down in the south. It can be unnerving. It's something that you do have to be acutely aware of - this is our reality. I'm not someone to live in fear but I'm also not an idiot.

Re: Where wouldn't you travel to right now?

I know this is silly but I have actually started developing anxiety over terror. I am always scared that something is going to happen. I go to the mall, I think someone's going to bomb it or shoot it up. I get on a train I fear it will be attacked. I Hate that I feel this way..I want it to go away. :(
I don't speak about it often as I don't want people to say oh stop.. its fine, it wont happen, I fear getting made fun of. So to answer the question I don't want to travel anywhere out of the untied states. Even though I still fear our Railroads and our city. I feel safer here still. I am going to Aruba next fall but I feel safe traveling there. Oh wanted to add I have had this anxiety and fear since 9/11. I think that is when I started feeling this way. I know there are other out there that feel like me. But I don't wish anyone to be so nervous when traveling crowded places and always thinking the worst.Chat Icon

Of course! I wish it were different - and I am hopeful that sometime soon, we will feel safe enough to head there. There's so much to see and we are very big on exploring all of the US...even our honeymoon was domestic! Chat Icon

Where wouldn't you travel to right now?

Good question.. I don't know. I mean you can die in your car. So fear isn't really the issue for me. But I'm not dumb either. I'm not going to Columbia anytime soon or Mexico either.

But I really really love my country. I have no fear traveling it. I know people talk trash about every state at one point. God knows they talk trash about Texas especially with this election season. But I'm 6mins from a Muslim temple, 15mins from a Mormon temple, 10mins from a Jewish Synagogue. It's a military town with lots of different faiths and skin colors. Tons of tourist and 50% of the people you meet aren't from here, just decided to stay.

But I've found in traveling the US lots of neat places and people.

As a matter of fact just booked a quick go away vacation to Chicago and my friends think I'm crazy considering all the death and destruction there. The crime and guns and violence. But it's a major city and major tourist area.

The Zika thing doesn't bother me in the LEAST bit. Not even on my radar. It's less important to me than a flu breakout. I'd be more concerned about a tummy virus than those two.

But I'd rather not leave my country. And if I did. I'd rather stay to countries who speak my language. Silly I know. Not necessarily safer, just that in a extreme situation, I want to be able to communicate and understand what is happening.
