If you've bought furniture from Bobs

I bought furniture from there years ago and DH and I were very unhappy with what we bought. We received several broken couches before they even agreed to return our money for the living room set and our queen bed frame seems to be too long for a queen mattress. Too much space between the mattress and the footboard and headboard. BUT that was 9 years ago and I now need furniture for DD's bedroom and beds for my boys. They seem to be cheapest and we are on a very tight budget.my question is, we are buying a full bedroom set for my daughter and beds and mattresses for my boys. Will bobs bargain? In the past I've gone to other furniture stores and I've been able to get some sort of discounted price. Will bobs do that, or no? I'm going this weekend and I just want to be prepared.

Unfortunately no- they are a set price. The only thing you may get thrown in is the Goof Proof plan if you haggle enough.

I bought my living room set and my bedroom set from Bobs and it was...okay. I have the same issue with the mattress not being long enough and there is a gap between the mattress and the footboard.

However, we recently redecorated my teenage daughters room and got the furniture from Ikea, and we are much happier with that. It's a pia to have to put together, but it looks beautiful and it was affordable. Next time I will go there.

Re: If you've bought furniture from Bobs

To me, I don't care how much cheaper it is -- IMO, the HORRIBLE, DEPLORABLE customer service and the lack of quality in the actual products would be enough for me to avoid that place like the black plague. I would never, ever buy from there.

You can check out R&F, they will let you haggle and sometimes with a sale you can get a good deal. I have found that their service is good and the quality is great - I have had several pieces from them for years and years that have survived several moves in great shape.

You could also check out Costco -- online or in store but online sometimes has more to offer. You'll get great quality at the wholesale price. They have wonderful furniture.

I used to love the JC Penney Home Store but, and maybe it has gotten better, but a few years back it seems they changed their whole style of what they sell and the great prices went bye-bye. So, I stopped going.

I went to bobs recently to check out their mattresses and I felt like I was in a shark tank. The shark being the sales guy in a cheap suit that follows you around the store. We layed on a mattress and the sales guy told us we were laying on it wrong. We walked out laughing. You get what you pay for. I'd shop around if I were you

If you've bought furniture from Bobs

i wouldnt buy anything big from bobs again.

I like my couch/chair and entertainment ctr, but the arms of the couch and chair are of some sort of plywood under the leather i leaned on one arm to get up and it cracked and sunk in. The pull out makes so much noise its unbearable. Thankfully we dont have to use it much anymore. The springs were burning holes in the mattress.

The entertainment center is composite wood and the little strip on the side popped off within a few weeks so you can see the composite wood on that side now.

We got our new bedroom set from a local store on Myrtle Avenue. My mom has gotten a ton of stuff there and they are absolutely willing to negotiate. $1500 for bed, 2 side tables, tall dresser, short dresser with a mirror, mattress & box spring and 2 lamps.

We bought a lot of furniture from Bobs about 7 years ago - it hasn't held up well.

We bought our kids furniture from Raymour and Flanigan and financed it interest free to make it more affordable.

Ugh! Being that you all have the same issues as us I will continue to shop around! I will definitely check out R&F. IKEA is a huge possibility too. Thanks everyone!

Re: If you've bought furniture from Bobs

Our previous couches were from Bob's. I had to open up the couch myself several times to reinforce broken sections, areas where the flimsy nails ripped through the wood, bolster weak sections, etc. They just aren't built very well. We recently bought a new couch from R&F. I can tell at a glance that it is much better built, and should last a long time. It cost more than Bob's, of course, but over time, it may actually be cheaper since it won't need to be replaced or repaired anywhere near as soon.

This was the problem with every couch we had delivered from there when we first moved in together. DH fought with the. After the third replacement and threatened to put the couch in a pick up and drive to their store and show every customer going in the horrible furniture quality. I believe he also threatened to throw it through their window Chat Icon but he got our money back for our living room set and we still have the bedroom set and I hate it! I guess their furniture quality hasn't gotten any better!

Re: If you've bought furniture from Bobs

I have not purchased from BOB's, but have have to disagree with the quality of R&F from other posters. When I moved into my house 4 years ago, we purchased 10K worth of furniture at R&F. My couch is sinking in certain areas and the connectors for several sections have broken a number of times. I do have the warranty plan so they have come and fixed it free of charge several times, but its awful.

The stain on the corners of my coffee table keep wearing off, the tops of my bedroom dressers/nightstands are peeling, my dining room chairs become wobbly every month and the screws constantly need to be re-tightened...

Anyway, I will never ever buy furniture from R&F again. Not for the money they charge...

I do agree with other posters, IKEA has some great stuff for kids bedrooms - and with kids they are so hard on everything, IMO spending alot of money on kids furniture is not worth it. I destroyed my furniture growing up! My parents would always say, do you know how much this furniture costs! lol

R&F are resellers, so the quality is often different from item to item. There were definite differences in quality in the couches I looked at at R&F.
I also have several items from IKEA. Some of them are nice, but a lot of them are very cheaply made. BIL had an IKEA couch.... same build quality as my BOB's couch. Totally fell apart.

If I knew how to upholster, I would rather just build my own furniture.... Chat Icon I know I could build the frame much better than the "professionals".

If you've bought furniture from Bobs

We bought our mattresses, bed, and DDs bed from Bobs. We heard great things about the Bobopedic and for DD I wasn't going to spend an arm and a leg on bedroom furniture. It's only been 9 months though but so far everything is holding up well.

We decided to skip buying sofas from them because I have a few family members that did and mentioned that within 2-3 years the sofa was sagging.

I have a couch from Bob's...hate it. Cushions sunk so far down, it's ridiculous! My DD's dresser is from there and it's fine though, no issues other than the drawers are a bit to shallow.

Has anyone bought anything from Ashley? I went into their showroom in Lake Grove and they have some nice stuff. But wasn't sure if it's junky.

We have cheap furniture we are poor. bobs, ikea, etc. But I would say Ikea is the best, at least for bedroom items. I do not like Bob's items minus dining room tables/chairs and a few other pieces here and there. I would not get anything for the bedroom at bobs. Check Ikea first!

Yes we splurged on a few items from R & F's... our couch, love seat, etc. .... and we have NOT been very happy with them for the price they were compared to cheaper items. I mean I don't see a difference in quality to be honest.

We have our den set from Bob's. With two boys, I knew it was going to get trashed so I really didn't care about the quality. It's a year later and it's still holding up well.

My DH bought our bedroom set about 12 years ago from Ikea. It has held up great. No complaints at all, other than it being a PITA to build initially.

We just purchased our LR furniture through Ashley. The quality seems good; definitely better than Bob's. They were having good sales around the holidays. Also, I ended up purchasing through Ebates and I got a lot of money back that way. I had an issue with the furniture (they sent the wrong item) and their customer service was terrific.

I did a lot of online shopping too. A lot of the things sold at Ashley can be purchased online under the manufacturer name for wholesale prices. If you know what you are looking for, do some googling. I also saved a bundle on my coffee, sofa and end tables. I bought through Overstock, Joss & Main and Wayfair. Great quality stuff.

I just bought an Ashley signature bedroom set online through jennifer convertibles. It's beautiful and they had the best price. I have heard some bad things about jennifer convertibles customer service but I did not have any issues.

We just bought our couch and dressers from R&F. It just looked better quality then what we saw at Bob's. I read too many complaints about Bob's that I didn't feel comfortable buying couch from them. I may go to them for a dining set.

I was too. Very much so. I just read the reviews and a lot of the stuff was also on Amazon so I read the reviews there as well. I was not disappointed with any of the 5 pieces of furniture I purchased online.
