Update! Cyst found during breast sonogram

So I had a 3 D mammogram done this morning - routine and a follow up sonogram - first one - done because I have dense breasts. The sonogram technician said I have a 4 mm cyst on my right breast. She said the doctor will examine both the mammo and sonogram and will determine if I need to come back for a needle biopsy or maybe have me return in 6 mths to see if it has changed in size.
So I left and on the drive home began to freak out....

Did this happen to anyone and what was the end result? I know everyone varies but just looking for some support maybe.

So my doctor called me this morning and thankfully he said its nothing to worry about - most likely caused by a rise in my progesterone levels as I was having my period whilst the sonogram was taking place. Because they have never seen it before they want to do a follow up in 6months. For now I feel okay but will feel better in 6 months when they do the repeat and hopefully nothing. This was not picked up on the mammogram and while I know they can pick up benign issues I am still grateful to have the option of having a sonogram and not just a mammogram by itself. Yes, happened to me twice. Had to go for biopsies after cysts were seen. Both times the results were negative. I do think they are usually overly cautious in getting biopsies just to be extra sure there is no problem. I also think that if they were very concerned that the cyst could be something more, they would be more insistent on getting you in for a biopsy asap. Try not to freak out about it (I know, way easier said than done). Chances are greatly in your favor that it's nothing.

Yes, it happened to me. I had a mammo and sono to examine something on my right breast. While there they found something on my left. Went to a breast surgeon a few days later who actually found 3 on the left the original sono did not pick up on. It was scary. The biggest was biopsied that day. Two days later the breast surgeon called to say it was a fibroadenoma (benign cyst). The other two biopsies turned out to be the same. He put a marker in my breast at each site so they could be followed during future sonos. I have very dense breasts and they always feel lumpy to me. The surgeon said many women say that and have them. It's scary to think what mammos alone are missing.

Surgeon is having me follow up in 6 months as well.

It happens to my mom every single time. She goes every 6 months, and she's had several needle biopsies. Thank G-d it's always been nothing.

I had two biopsies. both came back fine.

Happens to my mom all the time as well. She usually just gets them aspirated. It's a good thing it's not a solid mass. I would try and relax and just follow up with whatever the doctor tells you!

Cysts are nearly always benign. I wouldn't worry at all.

I had a cyst. They aspirated. Poof, gone. I wouldnt overly worry. If it was a solid mass. Id be more worried. Everything will be fine

my mom had something like it. not sure of the size. but she had a biopsy done and it was fine. she does have dense breasts and always has to get an ultrasound done instead of a mammogram.

she goes every 6 months for a checkup. (she's also almost 60 and had a hysterectomy which doesnt help things).

Same thing happened to me. They recheck every 6 months but so far it has not grown or changed.

My mom has this almost every 3 years, most recently right before Christmas. Always benign. I'm sure you will be fine! Cysts are usually just that.
