Re: Sonogram-Cyst on brain????
DS had one when he was born...we knew nohting about it prior to the birth. We followed up with a neurologist after he got home from the hospital and it was fine.

Re: Sonogram-Cyst on brain????
I just asked this same question a few weeks ago, but no responses...
I did some research on my own and my sister in law met with a geneticist because her DD was shown to have 2 choroid plexus cysts on the brain. Supposedly they are pretty common and unless paired with other worrisome signs, are NOTHING to get crazy over. They usually disappear on their own by the third trimester and if not, usually by birth.
My SIL's baby looks fine aside from the cysts...and her older sister had one too!! (this baby has 2). My niece was absolutely fine, they just watch them to monitor that they get smaller and in like 99% of cases they always do! Hope this helps a bit....

Re: Sonogram-Cyst on brain????
I have two friends who had the same experience while pregnant. They both went on to have completely healthy babies.

Re: Sonogram-Cyst on brain????
Not cysts but my co-worker's daughter had a tumor, which was removed. She had a shunt put in.

Re: Sonogram-Cyst on brain????
My DD had a few cysts. The Dr. said it was quite normal. As a matter of fact, he explained that every 1 out of 100 people walking in the street still have the cysts. Some of them desolve as the baby develops, some don't and are just there.
It's very scary to hear and to think of cysts on your babies brain! My DD is totally fine and I really have no idea if she even still has them. ??
I hope your friend and baby are OK. HTH's.

Re: Sonogram-Cyst on brain????
I remember asking the sono tech about this. She said it can be a marker if accompanies by others, but alone it is usually nothing.

Re: Sonogram-Cyst on brain????
With both my pregnancies they have found choroid plexus cysts. First pregnancy I freaked out, of course, and did oodles of research. Turns out, it really is nothing. In only about 1% of the cases where it is identified, is there some kind of association with down's or trisomy. Truth is, most doctors now think that it's probably a normal part of fetal development that just wasn't observed until recently with the advances in technology that we have. As long as the ultrascreen/afp results come back normal and there are no other genetic markers for down's/trisomy, it's really not an issue at all.
With both my pregnancies, the cysts disappeared on their own within 2 weeks

Re: Sonogram-Cyst on brain????
dd had them, so did my freiend with her son.....my dd is now 2 1/2 and fine! its basically a water blister and pretty common from all the research i did....they live in a water sack for so long many babies develop them but only some are caught on sono's with them....with dd they did another level 2 at the hospital and it was gone by then...it stinks when you have it and have to wait to see, but usually reseolves itself!!!! tell her to hang in there and if everything else has looked fine, she doesn't have anything to worry about!!!

Re: Sonogram-Cyst on brain????
Landon had one that they noticed on an 18 week sono. They told me these cysts were very common to show up around this time and almost always go away in a few weeks. I had my level 2 a few weeks later around 21-22 weeks and the cyst was GONE! I was so nervous when they saw the cyst that I did a lot of research online and found what happened with me happens soooo often!
