Question / Poll about microwaves

I was having a discussion with a friend last night. And I was telling him that I do not have a microwave. I basically haven't used one in over 2 yrs. Meaning I used other people's probably 5 times in that 2-1/2 yr period.

He seems to think I'm the only person that doesn't have one.

So am I?
Anyone else out there not have one?

mine is built in with the range. i rarely use it. i'm more likely to use it as a clock and as a timer.

because i rarely use it, when i do, i get shocked at how dirty it is. seems those who do use it never bother to clean it... such is life and living in a small house with way too many people lol

i dont use it that often, but i only have one now because my aunt bought it when we moved to our apartment.

My parents use theirs ALL THE TIME.

I don't have one either! You're not alone :)

But people comment on it all the time like I'm crazy.

I heat up food in my little countertop convection oven, with my Wolfgang Puck rapid food steamer, or on the stovetop or in the oven. I don't use a microwave.

someone I know growing up didn't have one. I always wondered how do you reheat food? I know the oven or stove but I imagine it must take forever

I only have one because DH wanted one.
I rarely use it, prefer my Cuisinart oven to cook/heat things up if I am not using the stove.

Eta - I hate how much space it takes up. Over the stove mount is not possible.

I own one. I don't use it.

We have one over the stove. It broke the same week I lost my job. I still use it for to light up the stove top area. LOL

My husband can't live without one so he got a cheap one and put it on the counter. I have yet to be motivated to replace the one over the stove. I see no need.

I do not have a microwave and have not for 3 years. I will say.. I miss it though. Not often, but there's certain things that I think this would be so much easier with a microwave! I'm glad for the space that I save in my itty bitty studio apartment "kitchen" without it, though.

We're in the process of buying a house and there is a built in microwave and I'm pretty excited for it though!

Yes and since we got one with a convection setting, we've been using it a lot.

We use it every single day. I like to heat up my water for tea in it a few times a day. The kids are always heating stuff things up or cooking things.

I will say if I had kids Im sure I would have one.
But being single and living in a smal NYC apartment, Im definitely ok with not having one.

We have one and hardly ever use it. If it broke I wouldn't replace it that is how infrequently it gets used.

We had family staying with us over the holidays. It was the most action the microwave has seen in the last 2 years because they used it for everything. I was heating up leftovers in the oven and they took what they wanted and microwaved their portion instead.

My cleaning lady commented the other day on how she was surprised that it was used and that she actually had to clean it after they left.

I don't have one either. We never used it and it just took up space. I don't like the way things taste coming out of the microwave. I warm up things on the stove and I use my toaster oven AL the time. When we renovate the kitchen, I don't plan on replacing it at all.

Oh I also use it a LOT for softening cream cheese and butter for recipes.... it gets it to just the right consistency very quickly- rather than having to leave it out on the counter for an hour to soften.

I use mine at least twice a day to reheat coffee alone! I'm sure I'd survive without one but I use mine all the time.

I use mine about 20 times a day...seriously. For everything - defrosting bread for DS' lunches, reheating leftovers, reheating my tea or coffee once it gets cold (because I'm always interrupted as I'm trying to finish it)....and on and on. I have a Cuisinart convection toaster oven as well which I use frequently too, but I couldn't live without my microwave.

I never used to use the microwave, until my kids reached a certain age. I get home tired from work, and don't menu plan. They have a very particular appetite, so I pop crap in there all the time now.

But yeah, people thought I was weird for not using one before.
