Microwaves; Over the range or counter top?
I've have a counter top microwave, that's easy for me to reach. If after getting an over the range microwave, did you wish you hadn't ? Mary

Re: Microwaves; Over the range or counter top?
I LOVE having an over the range microwave. I am 5'3" and I have no trouble reaching over my stove (standard 30") to use or clean the microwave. I have a teeny tiny amount of counter space so if the microwave wasn't over the stove, I wouldn't even have one.

I love my over the range microwave, I would never have one on the counter again and take up all the counter space!

I love having the microwave over the range, less counter space is being used for it

Re: Microwaves; Over the range or counter top?
i have issues with over the range ONLY because of small safety issue. Exhaust fans are very important especially in the winter months because when you turn on your stove to clean it makes carbon monoxide and if you don't have windows open you are exposing yourself to that toxic crap. People who put the mic over the stove typically remove the exhaust fans which to me is a safety issue.
Otherwise if you don't have one or don't plan on having any exhaust fan then its def. a plus or just crack your windows when cleaning your stove.

When we have our new kitchen done, I plan on having an under-counter microwave, but technically not an over the range mount. I want to have a dedicated exhaust fan, and have the microwave off the counter, probably next to the stove.

I love my over the range microwave, and so did my mom, until hers recently broke. They are just SO expensive and annoying to replace. Right now she's got a counter top one instead.
ETA: I'm 5'3 by the way.

I'm 5'3 have no problem reaching it. I love the convenience but I DO NOT like the vent. Mine just vents from the top but I want to have it exhausted out side although it will mean I will loss the cabinet on top

i hate things sitting out on the counter so overrange...love it there. THey also make a drawer microwave now but if you put anything with liquid in it i've heard it spills when you shut it.

Hi, Laura!!! That's what I was wondering, about the step stool. We had gotten new w/d, and with the pedestals, I can't reach to clean them off on top, without a step stool. Thanks for your input!!! Mary

Very good point, Jenn, and I'm glad you brought it up!!! Do some over the range microwaves come with an exhaust fan? Need to ask DD, Donna, if she has a fan. Thanks!!! Mary

I need to ask DH about the vent/fan issue. As for my bitty cabinet on top of my fan right now, I never open it. DH and I were talking about unused cabinets, when we were at LOWES on Sun. After all these yrs., I've learned what works for me and what doesn't I think if I ever had a kitchen choice again, I'd go with more pull out drawers instead of cabinets. We also saw the two drawer dishwasher pull out, and while I like the concept, I wonder if my roasting pan would fit in the drawer. An appliance dealer, before we got our new dw, told me it wouldn't. Wish companies would make the drawer dw, larger to accommodate larger pots/etc. Thanks!!! Mary

The drawer microwave, I've never heard of, but if spills can happen, I wouldn't want one. It would be nice to have extra counter top available. Mary
