Those with out of state parents, how do you spend the holidays
Do you parents come to see you, do you go out of state for holidays to see them or you spend it apart?

Re: Those with out of state parents, how do you spend the holidays
We don't spend the holidays together anymore. My mother doesn't drive and our business is open most holidays. So the 8+ hours spent in the car getting there and back only gives us like 2 hours to hangout.
I spend holidays with DHs family and my mom is with my sister and sometimes my brother who lives closer to her.
We try to go before or after to celebrate

We spend Thanksgiving local with my inlays, and travel for Christmas. I'm a teacher so I have time to go away for a few days then. DS is only 4 so it's been easy, not sure if it will stay that way.

We don't spend holidays with them. We used to try and get out there for thanksgiving but it got too costly and we just weren't joining the holidays. They never come to us.

Same with me unfortunately, we don't travel to see my family anymore. My family and I are super laid back about holidays though (and we have no kids) so it's not a big deal. We never did anything much even when I lived in ny. We talk on the phone and thats really it, and it's fine.

Re: Those with out of state parents, how do you spend the holidays
My parents both live in Florida but are no longer together and they live on opposite coasts.
My dad comes up here for Thanksgiving. My mom hates the cold plus my sister and niece live with her so unless they wanted to come to NYC in the cold, it ain't gonna happen.
Sometimes DH and I go to FL for Christmas, but usually we just spend it here, together. His family doesn't celebrate Christmas so our tradition is to just hang at home that day, watch movies and cook good food or sometimes go out to eat.
Most of my family has moved to FL so we go down there for long weekends throughout the year. For example, instead of paying the crazy airfare to go there for Christmas, I'm going a few weeks later for my niece's birthday and Disney...the airfare is dirt cheap and it's one of Disney's least-busy times.

We do not live near our families. We go to my ILs for Thanksgiving and spend 4-5 days there. We stay with my sister for Christmas for 4-5 days. My parents live down the block from my sistet. We go down on Christmas Eve. As my DS gets older, I assume we will go down on Christmas or I will have gifts shipped to my sister's house so we do not need to lug them there and back. I have a big family and EVERYONE (Aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings, etc) goes to the Christmas party.
