What was the last kind thing you did for a stranger?

In the spirit of Thanksgiving and the holidays, and with all the craziness in the world just thought it be nice to talk about something positive.

Mine is small, but an elderly lady forget her date book in a shopping cart and I ran to the parking lot to give it to her.

I also engaged in conversation with someone on LIRR last night, which I never do! But they were looking to chat/vent. This one is weak, but I'm usually the person with headphones and total RBF on the train, so it was big for me lol. Plus, I think they just wanted someone objective to talk to.

What was the last kind thing you did for a stranger?

I'm trying to be more patient with customer service representatives and people on the other side of the phone. I'm having work issues with National Grid and most people would be yelling and screaming at them, and I'm trying to be kind, patient, tell them to take their time, etc. Same goes for the insurance representatives that I have to deal with lately.

What was the last kind thing you did for a stranger?

My DH and I were on our way to the city and he pulled over to give a homeless man his clean laundry he just picked up from fluff and fold. I was like what are you doing but he said it's all his sweaters and socks they can be replaced that man needs it more than me.

Last thing I did was give the woman ahead of me at the supermarket my coupon for $8 OFF her purchase. She was buying so much stuff and had a whole bunch of coupons. She was grateful and I was happy to help

I try to do something-even little things as much as I can. Like help the older person put their groceries into their car or let someone with less stuff ahead of me on line. I also leave coupons all over the supermarket that expire soon. There are things i don't buy, but why shouldn't other people save? We also donate $ and items to all sorts of charities through my town. This year we plan on paying off someones layaway at target for Christmas.


I had a tough time growing up. I remember how it felt to go without often. I am able to help, so I do. You can say I do it for selfish reasons as well because it warms my heart each time I do something.

I've been really down recently due to the all the craziness going on in the world. I want to show my girls all the good in the world so I've been trying to do good deeds whenever I can.

Last week at Shop Rite there were no shopping carts. I had my youngest dd with me and we had to walk all over the parking lot looking for a cart. I saw an older couple looking for a cart. So I gave them the cart. we had found. My dd asked me "why did you do that, we needed that wagon". I explained that it was the nice thing to do, and she and I went off to find another cart. We saw them shopping in the store and my dd said look mom thats the old woman we gave our cart to and she is happy.

Thank you guys! He is a good guy and amazes me with his kindness often. Today at target the lines were insane and I let 2 people with 1 item ahead of me :)

A woman left her wallet literally stuffed with cash and her license, debit/credit cards, etc. in Starbucks. I was at the "waiting for my drink to be done" area and it was DEAD quiet in there (off-peak hours). She took her drink, walked out... I'm standing there kind of in a daze. I glance over and notice it, the cash, I look up at the drink girl who has her back to me mixing drinks and I went to say something to her but she had her back to me and I figured, if I wait another second that lady is going to pull away in her car outside. So, I just ran outside after her, I got her JUST as she was pulling away.

Her reaction, that I returned the wallet with all that money, was literally jaw-dropping LOL she almost started crying. I was like, who would steal that?? But I know, a lot of people would. I could never do something like that.

This is the second time I have had that happen in the last couple of years. The other time was in New Jersey, we were on a road trip, stopped at a Wendy's, and again - DEAD to the world in the store, guy in front of me gets his order, turns to leave, drops literally a rubberband full of cash. It was a good $700 (who carries this kind of cash?!) and I was like OMG so I grabbed it and ran after him. He was shocked too. Tried to offer me money as a thank you. I said, no thank you sir, I appreciate it but the feeling of doing the right thing is priceless.

And as cheesy as that sounds, it REALLY is.

The lady at starbucks tried to give me money to buy me lunch but again, I said no thank you. I told her to try and pay it forward to someone else and that's gift enough

I was online in Costco and an old lady was behind me. I put my brussel sprouts on the belt and she groaned and said she knew she forgot something. She started to get off the line and I said "here...take mine." She was very grateful.

Volunteered at the senior center by me here in the city the other night for their Thanksgiving dinner / dance.
It was so great to see them all.dressed up and enjoyng themselves.

And buying for the kids on the LIF holiday list.

Every time I go to my sisters house (which is every morning) I put her neighbors garbage pails or recycle pail by her garage. I have yet to see this woman but I know she is elderly. Her son (or whoever goes there) must be like .

I have to say I don't do much on a day to day basis but I always give food to the food banks, we just stuffed stocking for the soldiers overseas and I donate to the causes I am passionate about. I would guess the biggest gesture that I have done was around this time last year, a woman in front of me in the supermarket was buying a cart full of groceries and getting cans of formula for her baby. She was on WIC or food stamps or something and the store was giving her a hard time because the formula she needed wasn't on the "approved" list and it was a whole scene. The poor woman was literally trying to feed her family. The cart was full of nutritious food, vegetables and fruit and they were not letting her pay. I told the woman to get 5 cans of the formula and I paid for her entire cart. It was alot of money but this woman really tugged at my heart strings.

The older man in front of me at Walmart kept having his debit card declined. He was buying essentials and had to leave his bags behind because he couldn't pay for them. I saw him walk over to the atm and still couldn't get any money. I paid for his things and told the cashier to let him know it's been paid for. That $34 meant a few meals and basic hygiene for him.

I work in a bank and see how some older people (retired/disabled/veterans) struggle on a small fixed income. It makes me sad.

I paid for the person behind me in line at dunkin donut drive thru. Someone did it for me last year around xmas time one morning and it just really brightened up my day.

I adopted a veteran family for thanksgiving along with a close friend. Together with other mom friends we donated a ton of food to the family and a generous stop n shop gift card. The mom and daughter of the family cried bc of all the food they received and said they only expected a turkey.

Our local town board,a members siter lost everything in a fire

We gave toys and clothes and a big play tent for her kids

The last thing that happened was I called a company for help and the guy said that I was so pleasant that he gave me $10 credit. I was shocked b/c I was just being normal, and I told him that I was sorry that people are so mean.

The last thing we did on purpose was to take a platter of food to the Uniondale police station and a thank you card. We did the same for a local fire department last year - they all really seem to appreciate it.
