2 year old fighting bedtime

We converted my son to a toddler bed a few weeks ago and he was doing pretty good with it. He would wake some nights other nights not, but was so excited for his bed and would go down without issue. All of a sudden he is refuses to go to sleep in his bed. It literally has been taking my husband and I 1 hr to get him to go down. We have some ritual every night, brush teeth and books. Once in a blue moon he will go down but very rare without a fight. I am due with my second in 2 weeks, so I am not sure if he is anxious about it. I just don't know. Any ideas or suggestions? TIA.
He turned 2 in mid Jan

Re: 2 year old fighting bedtime

Can you give him a toy to sleep with that he usually does not have in bed? That's helped my dd a couple of times. She kept calling us, so I brought up a random stuffed animal and it helped. How about new big boy bedding? Something that he can pick out with you, like a character or show that he likes?

We tried to switch dd to her day bed and she was good for a day and then really wanted her crib back. My dh gave in and she had the crib back for about two more months. I kept talking up the big girl bed and bought her sofia sheets and finally she told me she wanted a big girl bed and we've been good since. It might not be an option for you though if you are giving the crib to your new baby. She's older than your ds, she is 3.5

I got him all mickey stuff. He has a mickey bed with the mickey bedding (that is his favorite.) He sleeps with a mickey. I let him have a bunny in it but didn't seem to interest him.

DS did this last year. He was the same age. It was horrible. What finally worked was shutting his door. He freaked out. We told him it would stay open if he stayed in bed. That did it. We were kicking ourselves that we didn't think of it sooner.

DD just got through this. It was rough. Started just before she turned 2.5. It lasted about 3 months of fighting naps and bedtime and waking up several times during the night. I have been pregnant the whole time so it was really rough. Unfortunately it took putting a lock on her door for her to actually get better. Shes been great now and is actually pleasant putting her to bed. Try a night light or soft music? Good luck!

We use a timer for my 3yr old twins bedtime. They actually ask for the timer & if not used the have a meltdown. It's totally part of the routine now. Maybe that will help?

We took my ds to build a bear he built a bear for himself and got to make his sister one too(I was prob 8 months preggo). He sleeps with that bear every night for over a year. We still gave a hard time with bedtime but we have no schedule. But the bear is a must to go to bed! Good luck!

We also turn the lights off and I'll lay in his bed and tell him a story. He falls asleep most of the time. If not he knows it's night time and I have to leave the room.
