My 2 year-old DD's bedtime has become a nightmare

My DD is a pretty decent sleeper. Usually asleep by 7:30-8-8:30, and sleeps until about 7:30am.

Lately, some STRANGE things have been going on with her sleep. First, she skipped her nap TWO DAYS this past week. Up at 7:30, to bed at 7:30, NO NAP in between.

Now, the past 3 nights, we can't get her to sleep before 10. As we speak, she is watching tv upstairs w/ DH.

The other night, my mom came to watch the kids so we could go food shopping. We came home at 10:30 and there she was, running around the living room like a loon. She didn't go to sleep until after midnight!!!!!!

Is anyone else experiencing this? In reality, it wouldn't bother us so much if a) we didn't have a 6 month-old who's up at 6am and b) if I didn't have to be up for work at 5:30. We're both night owls, so it wouldn't be so bad, if not for real life slapping us hard in the face!

Is anyone else having this issue? She doesn't cry...she'll just sing, play in her crib, and hit the button on her aquarium for 2 HOURS...it's no wonder the batteries die all the time Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

No, I missed it! I just went and looked at it. Yeah, it seems like we're definitely in the same boat.

I can't even fathom them being done w/ naps at this age. Like, my mind just can't even go there.

But now that you said it, on the days she doesn't nap, or doesn't nap for very long, no problems going to sleep.

Today she napped late...around 2:30, and woke up at 4:30. In the past, that was never an issue, she was always ready for bed on time.

I don't know what's going on!!!

Could it be here teeth? My girls are getting their 2 year old molars. Is she still sleeping in a crib? I read them a book and then put them in their cribs and give them a book to read while they are in there. They usually are out within 20 minutes. NO crying, maybe some whinning.

I guess it could be her teeth. My DD is funny like that--she has never really reacted to teething outwardly. She might get a little whiny sometimes, but that's usually it.

Whatever is going on, I hope it gets figured out soon!

I just bought crib tents for my daughers. Aubrey started jumping out of her cirib. It took 3 hours one night, and two hours for four nights straight and she wasn't napping. It worked though. She is in safely in her crib and she isn't moody all day from not sleeping (me neither)

Re: My 2 year-old DD's bedtime has become a nightmare

DS has always fought sleep. I don't think he has ever slept for 12 hours. For a while, I was lucky if he went down by 8:30/9. Now, most nights, he'll fight sleep until 10. It doesn't matter when I put him down. He won't actually fall asleep until 10ish.

Re: My 2 year-old DD's bedtime has become a nightmare

Ds went through this at around 2-2.5. We figured out we had to adjust he sleep times. He had to be up at 6-6:30am the latest. He would take 1 nap no longer then 2 hours and he had to be down by 2pm or no nap. He would go to bed at 7:30-8pm. It was best if he napped 1-3pm. This worked until last week when he turned 3 and decided he didn't need naps anymore. Luckily it has been working for him. I would live for him to still nap but he says big boys don't nap
