If you have a SUV with 3 young kids...please come in

I have 3 kids two 4 year olds and an almost 2 year old.

I have an odyssey. While I love the convenience of it we have had a lot of issues with it and we are really leaning toward getting a car with 4wd.

I originally planned to keep it until my youngest was 4 or 5

1. How is it without sliding doors? Do your kids hit the doors into other cars?
2. How do you do space wise? We travel a good amount (vermont/Florida/north Carolina) we have a carrier for the top of the car but I'm afraid I will miss the space to move around load the kids erc

Tell me the good the bad and the ugly

I love my truck but sometimes I miss my minivan! Not as much now as most of mine are older...
I saw rent an suv for a few days and see how it is first!

I used to have an Odyssey but replaced it with an Acadia Denali. I essentially wanted an SUV that had the interior of a minivan (including captain's chairs in the middle and a fully functioning third row) and AWD. To answer your questions:

1. How is it without sliding doors? Do your kids hit the doors into other cars?

I didn't mind losing the sliding doors, and they haven't hit the doors into other cars. Then again, the doors are heavy for them to open to begin with. I usually open one door and let them pile in.

2. How do you do space wise?

Cargo space is decent, and we've used it for a couple road trips.

When I first started driving the Acadia, it felt huge to me. But, I got used to it and love it. It's handling beautifully in the snow, and I have no regrets.

Crashing a little bit, but it have the acadia denali and love it. I only have one dd right now and a second on the way so I can't answer some of your questions. But will say I love the acadia. We have captain chairs and so it makes it easy to get to a third row. But being that you have 3 kids that would be tricky for you, bc with the third row up the cargo space goes down a lot. With it down the cargo space is great

I'm wondering if I could do 3 car seats across middle row for trips when I need space or split the 3 row seat 60/40 and have one car seat and one side down for more space

You can do either the captain or bench for second row. I have the captain. You can have half of the third row up for a third car seat and still have the other half down leaving you a good amount of cargo. If that makes sense. Let me see if I can find a pic.

I have this car too...I have 2 dc who are in the captain seats now...but when baby #3 comes this summer, I plan on putting my oldest dd in the back seat...and the 2 smaller in the captains seat.

Its definitely not as roomy as the minivan, but I love how it drives, especially in the snow/ice.

We have 2 friends who have this truck and I love it.

Our lease is up in May on our Grand Cherokee and while I love it, I just really want a 3rd row for when we need to have someone else ride in the car with us.

We are definitely going to look at this and the Ford Explorer.

I have the buick enclave which is essentially the same as the acadia denali. i like it but I have the third row up all the time because i have three kids and we carpool a lot. there is very little cargo space with the third row up. to solve this we had to get roof racks installed and use a tuhle box. It works fine this way but in retrospect i kind of with i got the cadillac xl. although where i live parking spaces are very tight and so that would be even more difficult to park.

1. I miss the sliding doors. I do open the doors for them since they are still young and always tell my oldest to be careful opening the doors.

2. We gave a honda pilot 4x4 and have no space comaints.

We looked at the odyssey before purchasing the pilot it was a runner up. we were sold on the 4x4 and overall look, space was a bit more limited but not so much. We are very happy with it especially the 4x4 wd

3 kids, I have the Acadia (with the captain chairs) and I love it. Had a minivan prior. I dont miss the sliding doors and I definately dont miss the kids arguing about what movie to watch as I opted out of that option in the Acadia. The trunk is definately smaller but so easy to just put part of the 3rd row down for more room. If you are moving to an SUV I would definately make sure captain seats are an option. So much more convenient to reach 3rd row and sepearte the kids than a full bench.

I have 4 dc and a suburban. Captains chairs in the second row -2 car seats. When I had 3 dc I had the same car but with bench seating in the second row. At the time I had 2 boosters and a car seat in the second row. I like the captains chairs for easy access to third row. I never owned a minivan so I can't comment on sliding doors but I taught my kids to be careful opening the door. I really love the suburban-easy to drive, plenty of storage(no need for rooftop box-we ski a lot and I just throw everything in the back.)

I have the Enclave and I love it. It's actually the first car in 20 years I genuinely love. When I have the third row up, I do have limited trunk space, but still more space then I had with my Pilot.
