WWYD?!?

DD was invited to a family members birthday party at a gym type place- she would love it. BUT it's on the same day and similar times as a good friend's baby shower I already RSVPed yes to. I hate that I get such last minute notifications from said family member. Distance wise the events are almost 2 hours apart. Do I:

1. go to the friends baby shower since I already said yes and have DD not attend the birthday party?

or

2. ditch the baby shower early- like go, drop off my gift... and leave 1-2 hours after showing up to then try to make it to the other party?

I feel like either decision I'm going to be unhappy about. I'd hate to show up at the baby shower and then have to leave so quickly after being there, I'd like to be able to eat and see her open the gift... I'd also feel bad DD missing out on this party and not having that opportunity.

please help

If you're close to the family member then go, but if you're closer to the mother to be just explain you are already going to a baby shower that day but you would love to meet later for the kids to get together.

yes i could only be at one party for half the time to make it to the other party. so it's either only do the shower, or do half the shower and go to the other party

Re: WWYD?!?

You have a prior commitment. You received the invitation to the shower and already accepted.
So, you can't make it to the party. If your family member is upset, maybe, like you said they'll understand they can't invite people last minute.

WWYD?!?

Id do half the baby shower then the party. JMHO
I mean kids.. whatcha gonna do right? My daughter would be much more entertained at a party than a shower. I assume you were going to take her to the shower? Kids always take priority in my book.

Reversing it. I'd STILL do the party and show up the a shower late if they were flipped in times.

I would HAVE to show up to a BFF's shower tho.. pretty high up on the must do list. But my BFFs would totally understand if I had to leave to take AJ to a party as well. Best of both worlds.

I feel like all I do half the time is taxi around! LOL

WWYD?!?

Can dh bring her to the party? Or another family member that's going to the party bring her? Maybe you could even drop her off at that family members house ahead of time?

If those aren't options I would honor my commitment to the shower. It wouldn't be right to change your RSVP for a last minute invite.

IMO it would be incredibly rude to not go to the baby shower now.

no, no one else is available to take her. the party is a little over 2 hours away. so its not something that can be easily arranged otherwise.

Re: WWYD?!?

I would go to the shower and I would let your family member know something along the lines of... "I am so so sorry we have to miss x's party, my DD would have really loved to be there. Unfortunatey I already committed to attending another party on the same day and time a long time ago and can't reneg now. If I would have known about X's party in advance of committing to this party I would have of course wanted to attend X's party as X is family! SO sorry and hope she has a great day."

It's very hard as our circles of family and friends grow to be in so many places at once! I used to have this problem quite often - what I do for myself is before planning a party I email the VIP's and run the date by them - I have also let family and close friends know to pls do the reverse because we are booked a month out almost every weekend day! This way, you can be sure not to miss family events. However, if someone doesn't run the date by me - I go to the first event I rsvp to - regardless of the closeness of the guest of honor.

I personally find it rude when people overbook themselves. You already RSVP'ed for the shower, that's what you should attend and for the WHOLE time. I think it's rude to leave early for another party that you were invited to AFTER the fact. If someone else can't take your kid to the bday party, she will just have to miss it. No big deal. There will be a million other bday parties in her life.

Re: WWYD?!?

shower 100%
Go & enjoy the entire thing
I don't think it's worth it to rush around, leave early, drive 2 hrs, etc.... I think it'll just ruin the day for both of you... I don't think you should feel guilty because the party invitation was so last minute.

Re: WWYD?!?

I agree go to the shower and that's it, if the bday was close then I could see leaving early to go there but since it's so far away it's not worth it

Rule in our house is if we have a prior commitment we stick with it-my DH's family is famous for last minute invites.
