I still havent heard it talked about how he afforded the several thousand dollar plane ticket to fly here. Has anyone heard anything about this?
Or who is paying for the several thousand (if not more) in hospital bills, treatment, isolation, disposal of hazardous waste, etc?

Hi situation is tragic, but it is critical for our national security that a message not be sent that lying to officials charged with screenings at airports or hospitals will be punished, not rewarded.

everyone does realize that this man traveled without any symptoms right? He didn't become symptomatic until he was IN the US?
Now, the fact that he was working with ebola patients and then traveled across the world is risk enough, a risk he should not have taken but to imply he KNEW he was sick and still traveled to the US in dumb.

he was not symptomatic when he left Liberia. That is the BIGGEST concern of all with this virus. 3-21 day incubation. A person could be exposed and circle the globe several times by plane before becoming sick.

I think was he did was selfish and desperate (and wrong), but if it was me I can't say I wouldn't have tried to save myself. I would never have wished this on him, but I do hope others see that you do not automatically survive just by being in this country, and that it deters others from trying to get into the US when they know they have been exposed.
But he didn't come to "save himself". he came for leisure. He didn't immediately seek help once he arrived in Dallas. He waited until he became symptomatic. And for those reasons, I stand by my original opinion.

why would someone seek help before being symptomatic? they would have no reason to do so. You don't go to the doctor to be diagnosed for something with no symptoms?

right that's my point and in Duncan's case - now he is in a new country with the potential to expose so many others  He was not sick when he left Liberia. He likely didn't know he would be sick.
If the in a incubation period is 2 days, you stay home 2 days and you are in the clear. 21 days and you fly to a country that has not been exposed because you figure you are in the clear.

He was still a human being.
A living, breathing, human being.
He may have been desperate, it may have been an unfortunate case of circumstance, but I don't believe he any malicious intent to spread the illness.
I think he desperately wanted to live.

UPDATE: a patient has been admitted to the hospital who was exposed to Ebola and is showing symptoms. Ugh.

NBC 5 has confirmed the man is Sr. Sgt. Michael Monning with the Dallas County Sheriff's Office.
Dyer said the symptoms exhibited were not Ebola-like, but because he was feeling ill and had been at the apartment he was transported to Texas Health Presbyterian out of an abundance of caution.
I doubt this guy has ebola - probably more like a stomach flu

And that's my point. Another poster commented my post was harsh because he came here for a fighting chance (paraphrasing). He ignored his exposure and lied about it.

And does it really matter if we see outbreaks of Ebola what his intent was?
The bottom line is that he knew he was exposed and lied about his exposure to gain entrance into the US. FOR LEISURE. NOT to 'save himself" or at a desperate attempt to gain access to advanced medical treatment.

I think this is where it's going to get tricky.
Yes, we should proceed with caution. But we all need to understand that the media is going to spin it much more dramatically than it is/should be.
Just because he entered the apartment (presumably using extreme caution, proper HAZMAT attire/precautions) does not mean he unequivocally contracted Ebola.
People who feed the mass hysteria with blanket statement and generalizations only add fuel to the fire.

Supposedly he didn't know he was exposed to ebola. CNN is doing a piece that he helped a pregnant lady who was not known to have ebola. Supposedly she collapsed and it wasn't until the day Thomas left that she was found to have Ebola. Nobody knows the truth here.

I saw that on cnn too. That the pregnant woman whom he carried after she was turned away from the hospital bc they didn't have room for her was never tested for Ebola. I wasn't known she had it. He wasn't knowingly helping Ebola patients. Who knows what he was thinking. He wouldn't have been lying if he didn't know she had Ebola.

The deputy was forced to enter the apartment with NO protective gear. He expressed concern and for whatever ridiculous reason he was made to enter with NO protective gear.

You people calling him a pos and saying you have no sympathy know that he didn't know he had Ebola, right? Do you know how he got it? By helping carry an ill PREGNANT woman from the hospital to a cab so she could go home. Her illness was thought to be pregnancy related until she died and they found out shed actually had Ebola. She died over a week later and AFTER he was already here. He didn't know he was even exposed let alone that he had it. He was tested at before he left and had no symptoms.
It's a terrible situation but calling him a pos is a little rough. Someone lost their life, have a little compassion.
