I'm Italian - I'm with you - My boys wear undershirts.
I get them at target - Hanes makes mini packs (like the men's/women's versions in kids sizes)

Yes we always had one on growing up (same crazy Italian household ) My mom buys my girls a ton of undershirts for the fall/winter and ALWAYS checks to make sure they have one on. If they don't she makes my life hell. Like something terrible will happen to them if they lack a thin tank top underneath their long sleeve shirt lol
Do we have the same mother? It's like one of the 1st things she does when I drop my kids off in the mornings. She takes off the jackets and then pulls the collars out to make sure there's a shirt under there. If not I hear 'wheres the undershirt? It's cold out!' then she goes to her stock pile and proceeds to put one on them. lol
Well, I guess the crazy Italian traditions continue !!! We always had under shirts when we were little and now both DDs wear them . It is one of the first things my crazy Italian mother looks for at drop off once October hits !!! I buy them at Carter's, target , kohls and Costco !
add me to the list!

Re: Undershirts - am I crazy?
Yes always an under shirt from October until May. Carters actually makes long sleeved ones. Thats what I use once they outgrew the onsies. DS is 5 and still wears long sleeved under shirt in the winter.

Re: Undershirts - am I crazy?
THANK YOU everyone! So glad to know I'm not the only one (or only crazy family, however you want to look at it). I found the ones on the carters website - them and a few other manufacturers start them at size 2/3 - will those be too big for a girl who will be in 18 mos to 24mos most of the fall and winter?
I also found some Burt's bees ones on the BBB site with more sizing options. Maybe I will try those!

Undershirts - am I crazy?
Carter's makes 24 month undershirts. Truthfully, my daughter is a 3t and I can stillfit her in them (they've stretched). She also has the tank top ones.

They have them at walmart target etc. I buy them for my one son to wear to bed with pajama pants. He gets hot at night and they are soft and inexpensive

Re: Undershirts - am I crazy?
I use them for my girls on the really cold days and under their pjs during the winter. They sell xxs at childrens place which are tiny they fit great for size 2t. I get s ones from Hanes and fruit of the loom which are like a 3t/4t but they shrink. I get them at walmart because they are the cheapest. Carters also makes some and they are good quality but just more money

Re: Undershirts - am I crazy?
Oh my god. This is changing my life.
I've seriously lost sleep over the fact that my kid no longer wears a onesie (potty training at day care).
DUH! Undershirts!!
P.S. I'm not at all Italian but I hate seeing the bare bellies on kids when their clothes ride up. It's a weird affliction I have.

Another crazy Italian family here - my twins are almost 4 and my mom still makes comments on their lack of undershirt wearing.

Re: Undershirts - am I crazy?
Of course my kids wear undershirts in the Winter - just like I did - and I thought everyone did? I guess not. You need them so the freezing cold air doesn't go straight at their chest through sweaters and thin shirts. They sell them everywhere - Kohls, Target, etc.

Re: Undershirts - am I crazy?
Always wears an undershirt when its cold and actually she'll wear one if its hot because some logic says its better to keep that wet sweat off her outside shirt?
I don't know why
We put camis on her or actually bought Tshirts with logos or whatever that were thin enough if necessary.
still do

Re: Undershirts - am I crazy?
I don't remember if I wore actual undershirts, like the t-shirt kind. But I DO remember that in the winter my mom would make me wear turtlenecks under everything. Everything. Most of my professional pics from elementary school and even middle school I had a turtleneck under whatever nice top I chose for the picture.
This past winter I always put a onesie under dds shirt, but I stopped once it got warm out. Not sure if I'll get her undershirts this winter. She'll prob be potty training by then, so I guess no more onesies for her either. I'll try to refrain from forcing her into turtlenecks

I alwaysssss wore undershirts as a child and religiously put undershirts under my DD's long sleeved shirts lol! I want to keep her from getting sick and warm (during the fall and winter). I get all of her undershirts from babies r us.

Re: Undershirts - am I crazy?
I'm from the Midwest (Scandinavian background) and we did undershirts for warmth. We rarely wore them in Summer.
I remember hearing something like undershirts were supposed to protect your shirts from sweat, because back in the day, you wore your regular shirts a few times between launderings. They were expensive to buy or time consuming to make so they extend the life of them using undershirts.

Re: Undershirts - am I crazy?
Both of my kids wear undershirts - except in the summer when DD wears pillow case dresses etc- then I don't put her in one. Mostly it's because my kids have sensitive skin and I found they would sometimes get rashes from the heat without the 100% cotton undershirt - even if it was just from the tag in the shirt. I think it is a nicer look too especially for the boys. I get my DD's undershirts either from hanna Anderson, lord and taylor or honestly just about anywhere! I used to buy her the short sleeve t-shirt ones with the little bow but, I find those don't work with most clothing so I stick with the sleeveless cami ones now. HTH!

Maybe it's a crazy European thing? Crazy Portuguese family here and I ALWAYS had to have one on growing up. I typically wear a tank under my shirts now! LOL. I blame my mother.
my parents are Irish, and yes, we had to wear undershirts too! Sometimes I think she still thinks that she is living back over there in the '40's when they had to put the turf on the fire! Maybe it is a European thing! My mom always freaks out if the kids don't have one on in the winter! i always put them on the kids in the winter and a onesie under the shirt for the babies. i find the undershirts at Target - Gerber brand and Fruit of the Loom.

Undershirts - am I crazy?
It's summer, and my DDs wear a sleeveless white onesie under everything. I am learning so much from this thread, lol. Like where to find undershirts when I will need them! I can't imagine them not wearing one.

Re: Undershirts - am I crazy?
I am so sad that I cant get onesies for my son anymore in his size (though I still squeeze him in at almost 3 ).
He will ALWAYS have an undershirt in cool weather, well so long as I dress him he will lol
