Long car ride ideas

It's not terribly long. Going to be about 6.5 hours going to Upstate NY next week for vacation. Besides movies is there anything else? Figured with movies and the Ipad they should be good. Plan to stop at a rest stop to eat and have snacks. My boys are 5 and 3.
Just wondering if there was anything else to keep them entertained. They're pretty good in the car.

When I was a kid, we would do car games like finding all the letters of the alphabet on signs, finding all the colors of the rainbow, I Spy, or we sang songs. I wouldn't do ipad or stuff they need to focus on in their seat because that could easily cause motion sickness.

Do they normally play with things in the car? My dd is 2.5 and we always have some books, dolls, stuffed animals. I give her something before I start driving and she plays with it on the way to wherever we are going. Maybe bring a couple of things they like and you can switch them out every once in a while. I agree with I spy and looking for colors and letters. We used to do that as kids too.

My DD is 3 and she is usually very good in the car too. The longest drive we've done is 5 hours. She's content with the ipad (tv shows/games), snacks, crayons & paper, and her favorite cd's in the car.

We're driving to Boston tomorrow and plan on bringing an ipad and a couple of her favorite movies.

I do a 6.5 hr ride to my parents with my boys often. They mostly watch DVDs or sleep. I don't give them the iPad bc the looking down gives headaches & can make car sick. We also play find that hauler (my so is big into Mack trucks). We stop once for lunch & potty.
