A few questions about Good Sam

Has anyone done the sibling class at Good Sam? Is it worth it? Is there a tour we can go on as well as the expectant parents? I didn't have my son in Good Sam so I don't know about much about it.

I saw online that the visiting hours for siblings are 2-5. Are they very strict about that? My son is 6 and is so excited to be there. If he is in school during the day, by the time my husband got him and got back t the hospital he would only have an hour or so there.

Also, on the website its said that they encourage the baby to be in the room with you all the time-does that mean they insist on it? I had sent my son to the nursery at night from 12-6 (although they did bring him back to me one night when he was really fussy). I had a c-section and had a really hard time the first few nights. I will be having another c-section and am afraid to be alone with the baby overnight in the beginning.

Thanks for any help/advice!

A few questions about Good Sam

I was in good sam for delivery and another stay during my pregnancy.

There were families there all times of the day.

I never took the sibling class but did take the birth class and it was pointless so not sure if they all are.

As for rooming in - if you are breast feeding they will only keep the baby for short short periods of time because if the baby gets fussy they will bring them back to you. The same applies if you formula feed if the baby is fussy they will bring them back to you.

A few questions about Good Sam

My best friend took the sibling class and she loved it and thought it was worthwhile.

When I gave birth last year I was told baby stays with you the entire time as she was only taken for a short time when they had to do something. Dd stayed with me all night.

A few questions about Good Sam

I don't know anything about the sibling class but they do push for the baby to stay in the room with you. I had a c-section and was EBF so DS was with me the whole time except for pediatrician visits. It was hard but anytime I needed help, I just pushed a button and the nurses would come help me.

Re: A few questions about Good Sam

My roommates DD stayed pretty much the whole day. I think they want to be sure siblings aren't bothering other patients. She was fine. I'm sure at 6 your son will be too. DH also came by late after work too. (midnight)

I send DD back each night and got her in the am. No one said anything. I had a cs so I couldn't feed her at night. I'd probably leave her in there at night anyway b/c I don't like the idea of sleeping with baby there and people in and out all night. They actually didn't want me to take her back too early b/c the Drs check them in the am. If you take them, they have to come track you down.

They aren't, but they DO come kick everyone out at the evening one. I'm sure your son could stay then too. It's really for the mass crowds that come. The security guard comes room to room.
