Good Sam C-Section Questions
Now that I'm having one tomorrow, I'm panicking and coming up with all these questions.
1) I'm not knocked out, right? I'll be awake?
2) My friend said they tie your hands down... is that true??
3) DH will be in the c-section with me, right? We never took the c-section course, but I heard that's not mandatory, so he'll still be allowed in with me, I HOPE!
4) Will I get to hold the baby right away?
Thanks!
Any other info you may have would be appreciated, too!

Re: Good Sam C-Section Questions
Yes, u will be awake. They do tie your arms down, its not as bad as you think, so don't worry. Your DH will be sitting right next to you during the surgery. They let me see the baby right after but I wasn't able to hold the baby till after I was out of recovery.

Re: Good Sam C-Section Questions
1) I'm not knocked out, right? I'll be awake? For a routine csection you will be awake. I was knocked out only because I had low platlets, a blood disorder I developed during pregnany.
2) My friend said they tie your hands down... is that true?? Yes
3) DH will be in the c-section with me, right? Honestly we were told (3 yrs ago) it was a required course but my Dr was like "I have to ask you the day of the surgery if he took the course, just say yes, whether he did or not"
4) Will I get to hold the baby right away? I think once you are in recovery you can. (I was out of it, i dont remember)
Good luck! So exciting!!!!

Re: Good Sam C-Section Questions
I was awake, I think as long as there is no complications that is the norm. I think my hands were tied down but can't remember. My DH was in the room but we took the course. He could hold the baby right away but I had to wait until I was out of recovery. Good luck!!!

Re: Good Sam C-Section Questions
1) I'm not knocked out, right? I'll be awake? You are awake. Though they overdid the meds on me and I was not lucid at all during my c/s...I actually am p*ssed off that I don't remember most of the birth of my daughter. The only thing I remember is DH saying "It's a girl!" and then I was in recovery...don't remember the cutting or much of anything.
2) My friend said they tie your hands down... is that true?? Yes - that's standard procedure for any surgery..it's not crazy restraints but you are on a kind of "cross" table and your hands are kept from flailing about.
3) DH will be in the c-section with me, right? We never took the c-section course, but I heard that's not mandatory, so he'll still be allowed in with me, I HOPE! We took the class but they never even asked about it. DH was brought into the room after I was prepped (at least that is what DH said as I don't remember him coming into the room)
4) Will I get to hold the baby right away? No you will not be able to hold the baby right away, though your DH will. I didn't get to hold my DD until almost 3 hours later. They closed my incision and sent me to recovery for awhile and then I was brought to my room and I had to wait another 45 min or so before they let us wheel the baby from the nursery.

Wow... thank you for the answers. I really didn't realize I was going to be that "out of it". But I am happy DH will be there the whole time with me.
