Shot in the dark here: Allergy mamas, come in. Chin pain?

Odd thing happened yesterday.

So she woke up before us and 'patiently' waited for us to wake up (by playing loud games on her leappad in our bed). We took off and both of us forgot to give her the daily dose of Claritin. Slipped our minds. We ended up outside at a park, then back home later. That afternoon she and I sat outside while hubby grilled.

The cushions on our chairs are really old and haven't been used in years. I brushed them off with a paper towel. I know one had one of those white web nests (like a spider sac but flat).

I did spray her down with bug spray of course! Ate dinner (she had hotdogs off the grill and corn off the grill).

Then she said her chin hurt and sure enough she was kind of swollen along her jaw bone under her cheeks just before it means up with her chin. I blew it off at first but she kept whining about it so I told her to put a cold towel on it but she said it still was very sensitive to the touch. I tried her out to see if she faked it but she wasn't. She jerked in pain. on closer inspection she had little bumps like rashy but not really red.

I gave her some Benadryl and Tylenol and an ice pack. Half hour later she said it was still painful but better. She asked for ice cream but couldn't finish it.

I think its allergies. She spent all of Saturday outside at Girl Scout Camp (with meds) exposed to all the pollen on a windy day. Then Sunday I think added on with those cushions that were probably covered in cat and dog dander from neighborhood animals (the neighbor's dogs used to get out and come into our yard and sleep on the chairs - thank god they're gone). Plus those cushions have been outside exposed to all the pollen from trees, plants, grass etc. dust, spiders, bugs whatever.

Just life in general if you will.

Never heard of a chin getting rashy or swollen with allergies though. So I figured I'd ask here. No fever, no sore throat, just a sensitive chin and jaw line. No bites no real redness either.

This morning I purposely gave her kisses to see if she was still sore. Mostly she ignored me but one part she snapped her eyes open and said "Mom! ow."

OH and she has eczema which has flared up enough for us to apply her steroid this morning. I'm fairly sure I got her jaw line with the sunblock on Saturday but you could see she got a bit of color.

I get really really bad eczema or dermatitis (honestly I can't remember which, or what the difference is) in the entire area around my chin (but not actually on the chin itself) - sides towardsmy cheeks and above. It turns red or red/orange and is triggered by: sun, salty foods, acidic foods, strong cheeses, dry weather. It itches/burns/hurts. Maybe it's more along these lines than an allergic rxn?

Maybe.. if it bothers her again tonight I might have to have hubby take her to the doc. I'm flying into NYC Friday so I can't take any time. *sigh* and you know I'll worry about it the whole time I'm in NY

Not sure about the chin being swollen but my youngest has a rash on his belly and arms. Went to doctor today and she said allergies. He has also been rubbing his foot saying ow which also has a rash. The allergies are affecting his throat, ears, eyes, skin. So I think it is for sure possible it could be allergies for your daughter.

Any chance there's also a bug bit there? It doesn't have to look like a mosquito bit to be a bug bite, and sometimes they can be quite painful.

There are some red marks under her chin (as of yesterday afterschool) not sure if she scratched it raw or if they are bites that she THEN scratched raw. The other issue is her steroid makes her skin 'thinner' so are careful to use it sparingly.

I am getting some coconut oil today to massage into her arms. They were fairly raised and pink (nearly red) at the skin but not yet warm to the touch. Hubby gave her a bath and let her play in there for over 20mins. Something I've been cutting down on.

We did as all parents with allergies do and micro dissected her whole weekend for anything new.

The camp ground was dusty and filled with spider webs, spiders and various ants but I don't 'see' a bite. It was also in the middle of nowhere with big trees and lots of wild flowers (pollen?). I used the neighbor's sun screen, didn't even think about it. Could it be that? We started to use some shoe freshening balls in her shoes (to controls stink). I used a new bug spray (Fairy Tales brand). She sat on those cushions in our back yard. We were late to her allergy meds and skipped it that day. No new foods, no new clothes.

So hard to tell.
