how do you get everthing done?

am i expecting to get too much done in a day.

the three days i work:
5 am up-get myself and 2 kids ready, get baby bottles ready, my husband helps to get the older one ready
7 am daycare
730 try to get a 30 min workout in
8-430 work from home. during a lunch or break try to do a load of wash and shower
430 get kids, feed them, get them ready for bed and try to do dishes
7 bed time starts, my husband is home to help kids to bed
8 clean up, get ready for next day
930 bed

two days i dont work:
my older has dance or swim.
i feel like we eat, clean up, one is going in for a nap, play a little and then same thing for lunch and dinner. i try a do some wash or something but i feel like i should be taking the kids outside.

weekends seem like they are always filled.

i'm just trying to find out when moms work 5 days, when are they doing wash, cleaning, planting flowers, doing the baby books, fixing the computer that is not working goign thru this pile of mail that i have and getting to the grocery store and everything else on my list.... i can't figure it out. i have my dad cleaning the house for me. i used to order food from peapod but the service has gone down the drain. i have a guuy to mow the lawn.

Re: how do you get everthing done?

I, too, work part-time, 2 days a week... those days are almost useless for getting things done. On the weekdays I'm home:

5:45 I wake-up and workout, while on the treadmill I watch the video monitors to watch the kids wake up. Both of them (3.5 and 1) are GREAT about waking up and staying in their bed/crib happy until I get them so I'm lucky there. Shower.
6:45ish - get the kids
7-730 - Breakfast prep while they play
730-8 - Clean-up breakfast while they go play (1 year old MUCH better at playing by himself than 3.5 year old). While cleaning up the kitchen I sneak in laundry, cleaning a bathroom, taking out trash. They know this is mommy cleaning time and the quicker I get it done the quicker I can come play with them.
8-10 - Combination playing with them and getting a chore done here and there
10:00 - DS first nap, DD watches TV and I get chores done.
11:30 - DS wakes up, this is when we usually run an errand or leave the house for sanity sake
Come home, lunch, get them both down for naps.

While they nap at the same time I catch up on emails, go on LIF, it's ME time, sometimes I'll even nap.

They wake up, get dinner ready while they play.

5:30 all four of us eat and after dinner DH plays wth them while I clean up, might mop the floor or put away laundry during this time.

DS goes to bed at 7, DD goes to bed at 8. During and between their bedtimes I run around cleaning and getting stuff done for the next day, DH works his tail off too.

Then at 8 we sit on the couch, watch tv and I do things like baby books and write thank you notes.

Bed by 10 for me

Hope that helps!

Re: how do you get everthing done?

I get up at 6:00 am and get myself ready (hair/make up/dressed - I shower the night before).

I make lunches for myself, DH & DS the night before as well (DS goes to school 3 days a week). I pack my bag and DS's school bag up with our lunches - DH leaves at 545.

I get DS up at 630 and get him dressed and ready.

I make the beds and then get DD up and changed. She goes right into her car seat and I drop them off at my moms.

I work 8-4 in the city. I get back to my moms at 5. She feeds him dinner at that time, so its about 6-630 by the time he is done and I pack them all up.

I get home unpack our bags, make lunches for the next day, vacuum, wipe down the counters, appliances and bathroom surfaces and every other day dust. I do this every night to avoid spending hours on the weekend doing it. I do a big cleaning Friday night after the kids are asleep - mopping, scrubbing down the bath/shower etc.

We play with DS for an hour and then start his bed time routine at 730 - bath, milk, brush teeth and read him books. I lay with him until he falls asleep which can take anywhere from 10 minutes to a half hour on any given night.

I get done with him and then give DD her last bottle for the night. She is usually down for the night by 9-930.

I go straight into the shower from there and then get my clothes ready for the next morning. I relax for an hour with DH and am usually in bed by 11.

I go through my mail as I get it - junk mail gets tossed right away as well as catalogs. I throw bills into my bag and do them every week during llunch.

I do the kids clothes on Sunday at my moms since we are there for Sunday dinner. We live in a co-op so I have my laundry sent out on Monday mornings and it gets delivered back to me the same afternoon.

I place a grocery order to FreshDirect every week for Sunday morning delivery. I make 1 or 2 things to on Sunday for DH to eat during the week (like chicken cutlets, roasted chicken and potatoes etc). The other 2 nights is pasta or a steak and a pizza delivery.

Saturday morning we get up and are able to leave and do things because every thing is taken care of.

I will admit I wish I had more 'me time' to go to the gym or get my hair and nails done.

DD is 4 months old and I just returned back to work. She is at this weird stage where she screams and cries real tears if anyone but my mother or myself is holding her.

Therefore, DH can't help me out with her. She goes into hysterics the second she see's that he is holding her. He can't calm her down for nothing. As soon as I take her she lets out this huge sigh and stops.

It's all about prioritizing. DH and I both work FT and we make it work. We do laundry on the weekends, rarely during the week. We clean on the weekends, or a little before or after work. In general, I'd love to have a cleaner home, but that falls lower on the priority list right now. Big food shopping is on the weekends only. If we need a gallon of milk we'll grab that after work, but we don't have time for big shopping trips during the week. In general, I'd rather spend time with DS than do household things during the week.

Re: how do you get everthing done?

I work full time and get a lot of stuff done after DS goes to bed (he's 5 and is typically in bed before 7) - we're all out of the house by 6:45 M-F. I'm home by 4 each day, so I have a few hours to play with DS, then it's all work work work when he goes down for the night.

645 - leave for train
730 DH takes DS to daycare
530 on T & TH I oick DS up from daycare
630 MWF - family gets DS and I get home

I do laundry all day long run to the supermarket go to the gym and I feel like superwoman those days. But normally we do what we can and then I clean the house Sat morning and food shop Sunday evenings.

Re: how do you get everthing done?

We both work FT in the city - DH it out of the house at 6:00, and home at 7:30 most nights - so I'm pretty much on my own.

Mon & Tuesdays my parents watch the kids at our house. So I don't have to do much to get them ready. I'm out the door at 7:00 and home at 6:00 -
Cook dinner, feed them (or we all eat together if DH gets home in time for us to eat at 7:30) ......
Baths, clean up the kitchen, do a load of laundry etc.

Wed - Fri they go to daycare. So I'm up at 5:30 to get myself ready. I get them up about 6:15/6:20 and we're out the door by 6:50 b/c I have to catch a 7:15 train.
Pick them up at 6:00 -

If they have games, we're rushing there.
I have a ziploc bag stashed w/ snacks & drinks, and another w/ diapers for the litte one so I throw those in my bag and we do whatever we might need to do straight from daycare pick up - grocery store, tball, doctor appt, whatever ..........
Otherwise we head home, they play outside in the nice weather - I cook dinner - same routine, bath, clean up, play hang out - I run around and clean up things, do laundry, prep for whatever is happening next day, later in the week etc.

Normally I peapod, do the bulk of the laundry over the weekend, and do the 'big' cleaning like bathrooms and floors on the weekend. My Mom helps me w/ cleaning when she's there too ........but I still don't have pictures hung up in my house, curtains on the windows, etc etc. - I just don't have the time to sit down and DO that stuff !

Basically I don't sit down from 5:30 am until 9:30 pm when they are in bed ........and even then I'm still doing something.

otherwise, like you said, it just doesn't get done. And I can't function in a mess. I get very stressed out and overwhelmed if the house is a complete disaster and there's shit everywhere and things are dirty etc. I NEED that 'order' .........Chat Icon So, my 'down' time pays the price

Ditto. My house gets cleaned when we can or when company is coming.

I am actually taking a half day off tomorrow to get some things done because we have had ZERO time lately, between work and very busy weekends. I need to get Mother's Day presents - we are seeing my mom on Saturday!

Mon-Fri
we all get up at 5, dh leaves at 530
530-9: breakfast, prep dinner, tidy house, crafts, play, get ready for the day
9: nanny comes
6:30 we both get home and it's bedtime for the kids at 7

weekends- in between parties/social events etc, dh goes food shopping with one kid while i clean and prep the laundry with the other. we do the week's laundry together (dont have a machine at home). i also spend about 3 hours prepping the week's meals on sundays so i dont have to do much during the week.

you'll always find time to do what's important to you!

I do not get everything done. I prioritize and just keep working on my to do list. I hope I get better at it but for now I have accepted that I have to let something go.

We both work FT so we are gone from 6am to 6pm. DH gets home about 5. we do Laundry and shopping on the weekend. We have a cleaner and a gardener come every 2 weeks LOL. We try to keep the house clean in between. We have a FT nanny though so she is pretty good at cleaning up after the kids. During the week when we get home we have dinner and just spend time playing with the kids.

Glad I'm not the only one Chat Icon

I don't get it done - I do what I have to and do what I can and the rest just stays on the to do list.

I find though the busier I am on the weekends, the more organized I am with my time (same at work - I procrastinate less)... I don't get everything done but, I manage to get enough done.

We have a cleaning lady come every other week which helps too. And DH has a rotating schedule so he's able to do certain things while I'm at work.

It's impossible, I've just accepted that this is my new norm. I've learned to let it go.

I work full time, up every morning at 4am, home at 3:30. Kids are in bed between 8:30/45 and I'm sleeping at 10.

I work an amazing job with great benefits! I think it's worth it. I leave work at 2:30- but because of the traffic on BQE/ Northern State, I'm usually home at 3:30. I got used to waking up early. I look at the big picture and try not to sweat the small stuff.

Same here. I don't clean as often as I used to and the laundry always piles up. I get up at 5 and try to get all my stuff done before she gets up. When she goes to bed at night I'll try and do other things.

Re: how do you get everthing done?

I don't. I work 2 jobs (my FT job is overnight) and have 3 kids...1 is an infant and another has special needs. The mail piles up, the laundry piles up, the dust piles up. I do what I can, when I can. All kids get what they need, and that is most important. DS's room isn't done, and he is almost 6 months old; DD's room isn't done yet, and they've been combined for 6 months already. It will all get done sooner or later. I do my best, and hope it is good enough.

My house is clean enough to be healthy, and dirty enough to be happy! Chat Icon

Re: how do you get everthing done?

I have learned to let some things go. The hardest thing i find is that when I do have free time (when kids are sleeping or napping) finding a balance of doing "work" or doing stuff for myself (exercising). I don't want to look back and regret the past years bc all of my time was spent cleaning. So I let some things go.

I put on a load of laundry right when I get home and put it in the dryer before dinner. I fold it when the kids are watching their 10 min of tv before bed.

I clean the bathroom after I clean the kids and they are playing in tub.

I really can't get much else done when the kids are up because my ds is into everything and I really need to be on top of him.

I do a lot at night! Some nights I am going from 7pm to 11 and then go right to bed. I run errands at night target , bday gifts etc. kids go to bed and I am out the door at 730 pm.
Other nights I do nothing and just hang with dh.

We get creative with the kids. I'll take them all food shopping after work or early sat am and dh will mow the lawn etc. if the baby is napping on the weekend dh will take the twins to do an errand so I can clean. Sunday I planted flowers when kids were napping.

You will find a balance and find you priorities.

You don't have much of a choice when you have to be on the train platform before 7;14 when it pulls into the station.

Re: how do you get everthing done?

I work 5 days a week and have 3 DC so nothing ever gets done. I forget a lot too since life is so hectic and I don't have time to sit and relax. Planting flowers would never ever happen. We just asked our landscaper to plan tulips for us since our home is on the market and we wanted curb appeal! I also have to do things late at night, after DC are in bed. It is quite the norm for me to be doing something productive after 10 PM or it just won't get done. A tough lifestyle but it is what it is!
