Re: Who gets your DC an Easter basket?

DD is only 8 1/2 mos and I bought one of the Pottery Barn baskets for her. Spent a lot on it but figured we will use it forever. Right now it's just filled decoratively with items from the Dollar Store, grass, eggs, carrots and I finally found a really cute bunny from Whole Foods of all places! I'm not planning on putting anything else in it. Will do that starting next year when she's older and understands more. I do plan on getting her the Vtech walker so I guess that will be her Easter gift. It just coincides with the timing of the holiday.

We didn't do baskets growing up. My parents are immigrants and Easter is a very religious holiday. As we got older, we definitely got chocolate bunnies and I think even the premade baskets from CVS. I think my parents will give DD money and I don't know if mil will give her anything. We are not close or seeing fil and his wife so no expectations there per usual.

Ds was 1 month old for Easter last year, we didn't get anything for him. I know his he got stuff from his grandparents and my sisters.

This year:
We got him a toy and I will throw some of his favorite snacks in a basket/bucket and maybe some bubbles or something.

My parents got him an easter pail with 3 pairs of PJ's and a thing containter of crunchies. Very helpful!

My sisters got him a bag with a bathing suit and sunglasses (same as last year). Another helpfuly one!

DH's parents will likely get him a bad/basket with some of his snacks, pjs. books, a small toy, or something like that. All things that save us from having to get something.

As long as they don't pretend that it is from the "easter bunny" and its not ALL junk food, i have no problem with any of them giving him gifts, basket, bag, bucket, doesn't matter to me. I think its sweet!

Re: Who gets your DC an Easter basket?

Growing up - just the Easter bunny. Choc bunnies from my grandparents and/or aunts/uncles.

NOW - my SIL is also giving my DD an Easter gift bag... So I have to reciprocate to her two kids and now also give stuff to my other nieces and nephews so they don't feel left out. It's crazy.

My MIL is giving her an Easter basket too but she also still gives me and my husband Easter baskets. Chat Icon

I wish I could stop this insane gift giving.

Easter bunny (in our house)

Aunts and uncles, grandparents! They are not typically as "large" as what the bunny leaves at our house but we all get something for all the kids Chat Icon

My DS is only 6 months and I got him a basket from the bunny -- which is silly, but im a traditionalist.
My mother tells me yesterday she also bought him a basket, and then my MIL tells me she bought him gifts. Im shocked. I didnt think of this as a gift giving holiday. Like pp said I hope that this is bc it is his first and not an ongoing thing. I appreciate the gifts (I really do), but want DS to be excited for his basket from the bunny and leave it at that! :)

Everyone and their mother.
We get him one, my IL and my parents get him a basket filled with toys, candy and some books. I appreciate it all but he doesnt really eat candy (he'll eat some hershey kisses but not much more) so who will probably eat all the candy? ME.
Yaay!

Funny thing is that I never remember having an Easter basket growing up. We did an egg hunt with my church and we dyed eggs but I never got gifts!

Oh how things are different for grandkids!!

Re: Who gets your DC an Easter basket?

DS only gets one Easter basket. Some times my sister will make it for him, like this year. Or Ill just go out and buy one. Im not into making them so my sister will do it when she has time.

On years, she doesnt make it for him, she willbuy him a chocolate bunny or something. And I give my nieces a little something every year.

The Easter Bunny always leaves a big basket with toys and candy.

When I was a kid we also got baskets or gifts from the rest of my family on Easter. Sometimes it was just a chocolate bunny or a small toy but my Grandparents always got me, my sibs and cousins another filled Easter basket.

Now that I'm grown and have children of my own the same tradition continues.

Pretty much this exactly.

ETA: growing up we left our own baskets out and the Easter Bunny filled them w/Small toys & candy. We will do the same tradition w/ my dd & DS.

Agree with this!

To go down the list:
His godmother
My SIL
My MIL
My cousin
My grandma will probably give $

I don't even bother getting him one bc he doesn't even get it! Maybe when he's older...

Growing up--the easter bunny

Now
the easter bunny
grandparents
SILs on DHs side

I can't stand it..Most of it is crap, i'm glad they're thoughtful and think of my LOs but it's seriously out of control. Mostly everything winds up in the garbage except for the Easter Bunny's stuff. I refuse to buy gifts for everyone...this madness must stop! lol

Re: Who gets your DC an Easter basket?

Parents and grand parents. No siblings so not sure if that would be different. I see nothing wrong with a basket from me and one from my parents. We don't give big things....think sunglasses, books, art supplies. Maybe a nightgown or towel. DD used to be allergic to chocolate so we did not give candy other than maybe some peeps. This year she is getting her 1st bunny in years, I have two frozen towels, 2 chocolate bunnies, and a small board game.

My mom has one bunny and some small art supplies. I like the bunnies bc they get one small piece on and off and so they last a month or two. Rather than a bunch of candy.

I agree Easter isn't all about gifts but I would rather they get some small useful things rather than a bunch of candy. My MIL really never does much of anything for the kids so I don't mind if my parents do.

Growing up my parents (Easter bunny) and grandparents.

Re: Who gets your DC an Easter basket?

I make DS's basket (it's not a tradition in eastern europe at all) It is filled with all the bad things he loves (this year, jelly beans) plus some toys (a puzzle and a train)

i also make some eggs for my godson. His parents make his basket and I just add to it. (jelly beans, puzzle, stamps, kite)

my DS also gets candy from my mom. Actually, she busy all of us "kids" chocolate bunnies. I get one, DH gets one, my 20 year old brother gets one, and DS gets one (plus other candy cause he's the baby)

MIL varies. Sometimes she gets him something, sometimes he doesn't get anything.

Easter is not that big. Children's day however... my mom and dad buy out half the store. lol

Re: Who gets your DC an Easter basket?

I never grew up with it being a gift giving holiday . We just got baskets from my parents. Last year we spent in NY ( we live in NC) and ds got a basket from, us, my parents, dh's dad, 2 aunts, 1 cousin and 2 friends, 8 baskets total. They were filled with 60% practical things or toys, 40% candy ( he was only 14 months old, last year, so dh and i ate all the candy). This year DS got 2 baskets delivered ( one from a friend, 1 cousin), is getting one from us, and got 2 checks. He is 2 years old.

Re: Who gets your DC an Easter basket?

We get my DSs their Easter basket from the Easter bunny. Anyone else who gives a basket, it is from them, not the Easter bunny and I make sure my kids know that. If people want to spoil my children, who am I to say no.

Re: Who gets your DC an Easter basket?

Just us thank goodness, or should I say the Easter bunny. One is more then enough, they don't need anymore. My mom usually gives them a little tiny bag of treats and buys them an outfit for the summer. My mother in law might get them a chocolate bunny or a little toy. Nothing big.

Growing up I got one basket at home from Easter bunny. That is all. Not a big gift giving holiday IMO
