I'd be upset if it were juice. Forget wine. I would have said worse.

wwyd? someone gave my 2yr old sips of wine
I would not be angry that they gave him a sip of wine, but I am more laid back than most when it comes to my kids. But you are his mother and you have every right to day NO WAY. I would have been livid that I was not listened to the first time, regardless of what they were doing.

Re: wwyd? someone gave my 2yr old sips of wine
I'd be furious and so would my husband.
I think cursing was warranted, because being polite was ignored. Sometimes that's the only way to get certain people to listen.
If you felt compelled to apologize, then apologize for offending people with that word, but I'd still hold my ground on what I said and why.

Re: wwyd? someone gave my 2yr old sips of wine
I had a semi similar situation (I'll elaborate on text later if you're interested ;) ) but a family member upset me so much once that I just lost it and in the heat of the moment said something VERY non Jackie-like and extremely inappropriate. Like you, I was caught in the heat of the moment and reacted fast without thinking. To this day I feel awful about it.
I don't think cursing at the table is appropriate but I TOTALLY get why you said what you did. It's easy to look back at these situations in hindsight and say how you should have reacted better, etc... But the reality is when you're in the moment, it's so hard to think with a logical head!

Re: wwyd? someone gave my 2yr old sips of wine
I cannot even FATHOM what kind of person thinks it's ok to give a baby alcohol in ANY amount??????????
To me, the issue of not listening to what you as his mother gave as a rule is just terrible.... But the effects of alcohol on a babies brain is worse.
I would have dropped MANY F-bombs and would not be seeing said relatives until an apology is given. Also, never leave your child alone with these people.
I'm so sorry you're being made to feel you did something wrong.

I would go BALLISTIC!!! I don't think that is ok and it's certainly not SOMEONE else's place to make that decision (aside from the mother of the child).

I would not have been pissed but I am super laid back about things.
You have a right to be upset but I do think dropping the f bomb at Seder dinner was probably a bit much.

Prunepie- do not apologize for protecting your child. They should have asked. You're 100% right to be upset, and take your time before the next family gathering while the storm blows over. I bet that next time they ask you before giving the kid a single cheerio...

I would have been pissed about anyone giving my child something like alcohol. Then I would have lost my sh*t after the second time. That's disrespectful and giving a child alcohol is NOT at all right

Re: wwyd? someone gave my 2yr old sips of wine
I'd be annoyed the first time b/c IMO you don't give someone else's child ANYTHING w/o asking the parent first - but I would have let it go
The second time, after you already very politely said 'please don't do it again' ......I would have been PISSED.
I probably wouldn't have cursed at my family at the dinner table, but that's not really ME ........KIWM? but I would have absolutely had a similar reaction

This. The sips of wine wouldn't bother me and yes, I am also extremely laid back when it comes to my DD. What would bother me was them not respecting my wishes. That would infuriate me.

I think your response was more than justified. If anyone is owed an apology, it's you, big time. That is unreal that they did that.

Agreed. The wine (or juice lol) is not a big deal to me. It's the total lack of respect is what would tick me off

I think she needed to curse to get their attention. She was ignored the first time she asked them to stop.
To the OP, you did the right thing.

wwyd? someone gave my 2yr old sips of wine
I'm pretty laid back and I'm shocked by the number of people who are ok with their toddler having wine! I would have been livid. And I would have cursed in the heat of the moment bc to me, giving a child alcohol is more damaging than them hearing a random word they don't know.

It was a sip not a bottle and I grew up in a family that used whiskey on your gums when teething.
I think I turned out perfectly fine.

I know what you're saying, but that doesn't make it ok to me.
What if this same child sees a half glass of wine left on the table the next weekend and thinks its ok to drink b/c Grandma (or whoever) gave them some a few days earlier. It would make me way too nervous.

Re: wwyd? someone gave my 2yr old sips of wine
As someone who had her baby at the Seder table last night, I think you were totally justified. And I can understand not cursing in front of your child. But since the OP is posting on here today (a day where religious Jews wouldn't be on the computer) I can assume that she is about as observant as I am, and that the Seder table isn't exactly a place of devout religious observance. It's a loud, raucous place and if you felt the need to drop that F-bomb, I don't think it was inappropriate at all.

Yes, all this. It's the second time that would make me livid. You already said NO MORE. And ftr I don't think it's a big deal to curse, but I think that's a personal thing. We probably say the f word five times at dinner without any conflict, lol.

Re: wwyd? someone gave my 2yr old sips of wine
Everyone reacts differently. I would not have been happy and most definitely would have said something. I don't think I would have dropped the F bomb but that is just me. So are you justified, yes of course its your child and you react the way you think is appropriate.
People really need to respect parental boundaries! You told him once, having to tell someone twice is frustrating!!
