wwyd? someone gave my 2yr old sips of wine
I'm too upset to write whole story but at passover dinner a family member gave my almost 2yr old son a sip of passover wine. Everyone thought it was cute bc he wanted more. I bit my tongue and just said please no more. 5 minutes later he did it again before I could stop him and everyone laughed again and I got so upset before I could stop myself I said " its not f'ing funny" the real f bomb. So now everyone is upset at me for cussing during the dinner even though they said I have the right to be upset that its not a big deal and I over reacted. Feedback please. I don't know if I am justified that I wasn't listened to

I would be pissed. Don't apologize.
Please my MIL gave my 9 month old wine on his gums for no reason. She didn't know he was teething. She just thought it was funny. I was pissed and said something.

You have every right to be pissed and THEY should be apologizing to you. Bottom line - in ALL situations - is that he is YOUR son and everyone else, family or not, needs to respect your decisions.

Omg I would lose my mind! Are they insane? Did I read it right that they gave him 2 sips? So after you said Please no more they did it again? I would be rethinking if DS would visit there again. If that's what happens in front of you, with you OBJECTING, what might happen if you aren't in the room?

I would be pissed if anyone gave dd something to eat that I didn't want her to have or drink....let alone wine. I would have reacted the same way.

I freaked out when DD was about 9-10mos and it was dessert time and my husband was holding her. We were about to leave and I just needed to run to the bathroom. I told him clearly do not give her any dessert. When I came back she was smacking her lips with brown stuff al over them. His sister gave her chocolate cake! At this point in time she had only had breast milk, organic fruit and veggies, maybe some organic yogurt.
I was PISSED! Of course dd was screaming for more. I had no idea what was in the cake, if there were nuts, she's supposed to go to bed, yet now I need to watch for an allergic reaction, did anyone ever think maybe I wanted to witness her first bit of cake?
I packed her up so fast and was so furious and still am. DHs family has no boundaries with this sort of thing. Don't apologize for what you did, you said no and he did it again, it's not right and you are his mother, I feel angry for you.

Drop the f-bomb, it was so appropriate here. Your child, your rules.
Family member who did this had every right to be told off, especially since they did it again.

I would not have been pissed but I am super laid back about things.
You have a right to be upset but I do think dropping the f bomb at Seder dinner was probably a bit much.

I cannot even with this... really? It's NOT about what her DS was given. It's about the fact that his MOM said DON'T do that, and they still did. If this was an allergy issue would you still be saying that cursing was "a bit much"? There's a difference between being laid back enough to give your kid wine (for the record that isn't the part that bothered me) and being completely and totally disrespected as a parent.

Yes because I do not curse in front of my child. I curse like a truck driver when he is not around but find it completely inappropriate to do it in front of my child and at a religious family dinner. Sorry just my opinion you don't have to agree with me.
You can curse in front of your child as much as you want.

Re: wwyd? someone gave my 2yr old sips of wine
I probably would cursed the person who did it out, punched them and left so, no, I don't think you over-reacted at all. I also would have screamed at the people telling me *I* was inappropriate. Are they kidding?!?! 1 sip is bad, 2 after you said to stop is ridiculous!! 2 sips for a 2 yo is a lot!!

Re: wwyd? someone gave my 2yr old sips of wine
1) I'd be BEYOND pissed, and wish I had the nerve to start dropping F bombs...but I tend to be silent and just shoot daggers at DH with my eyes when stuff like his happens!
2) (And I think a lot of people miss this point) It is YOUR child and what you say goes. Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, strangers on LIF have no say in how you raise your child. If you said that you don't want your child to ever eat chocolate or if you say you let your child eat chocolate for breakfast every morning...that's your right as the parent and nobody else has the right to do otherwise!

I'd be annoyed that they didn't listen. You had every right to get annoyed and react. I find it interesting that they are more annoyed at you for cursing than the family member who ignored a Mother's wishes.
Don't apologize - you made your point and it won't happen again!

ITA. I was going to say: your family is upset that you used to F-bomb, but not upset that someone gave your 2 year old wine?? Doesn't make sense. You didn't overreact, you're his mom and that's that...

Ok well that's different. Saying "I do not curse in front of my child" is not the same thing as "dropping the f bomb at Seder dinner was probably a bit much." Thank you for clarifying.
