how far in advance do you book your vacations?
The upcoming school year DS will be going into Kindergarten.
I want to be conscious of the school calendar and book vacations only when he is off.
How far in advance do you book vacations and do you have any suggestions in terms of getting decent deals?

Normally just a few months. Now I also have a dc going into K, I thinking has to be pretty far in advance and double the cost during school breaks

We usually pull the trigger and book everything about a 1-2 months in advance for domestic trips. For international trips, 4-5 months. For road trips, less than 1 month.
When DS starts kindergarten, I will probably book spring break as soon as school starts since our travel dates would be set when the school calendar comes out.

We mentally plan a year or so in advance. Our booking time varies based on the destination and whether we need to fly there or not.

Would it be insane to book something for spring break (April) now?
I get nervous that the rates will sky rocket. I'm looking at Thanksgiving and winter break now and they are absurd.
Full cancellation no charge if it is cancelled 14 days prior to the arrival date.

I don't think so if there's full cancellation no charge. If the price goes down between now and then you can always cancel and rebook.

I book once the prices are out but make sure everything is refundable and get the travel insurance. I like to be all booked and then I can look forward to it!!

I would book if you know you want to go away. I can see myself booking way in advance.
I got a taste of spring break prices when booking our turks and caicos vacation this year. Prices were 4x what they normally were. I had no idea how high they go during school breaks. It was seriously absurd how expensive it was.

I usually book months in advance... so booking for April now is normal for me... i booked for Thanksgiving like 2 months ago.

Yes.
There is no harm in booking if it's refundable!
I booked a labor day weekend get away in late winter because it is a popular weekend, I was coordinating with a bunch of friends, and the rate was refundable. (9 months early). The rate couldn't be reproduced for any weekend and it is a beach hotel!!!
I book cruises super early too (to get deal & best room pick).

how far in advance do you book your vacations?
If you're looking to book something based on school breaks I would book as far in advance as possible. Airfare gets expensive during those times!
For us DS is still a baby so we book trips when the airfare becomes available or as soon as we know where we're going.

We just returned from our trip to California and I booked it last December. I kept my eyes on the prices and they never when lower than what I paid. I would absolutely book early.
