How do you deal with bad behavior when you are NOT home?

I have a 4 year old. I'm curious how others deal with bad behavior when you're out--meltdowns in stores, etc.

Same way I do at home. I have given time outs in a store and a supermarket. Luckily DS is really good 97% of the time so it's only happened twice, he's 3.5.

They are much better out then at home but when they a t up out they get a time out. If they continue to act up we leave and go home.

i just gave DS ( 2.5 years) a time out at the playground this morning. he pushed a little girl who was trying to sit next to him in the toy car thing they have. i made him tell her "sorry" and then I picked him up, and found a spot over by the fence and made him sit his 2 minutes there.
this was really the first time I've had to go that far. usually in a store or restaurant, I'm able to distract him with a snack or a little toy or something. one time i did have to leave a store as soon as we walked in because he was loosing it, and i could just tell he wasn't gonna let me shop. it was nothing i REALLY needed so it wasn't a huge deal...
