Help w/ the hep b shot please??

So I'm being offered the hep b shot for my son and I'm not sure what I want to do. Please share your opinion on whether or not to have him get it.
From what I know hep b is only contracted thru sex, drugs, dirty needles. Those ways so is it really neccassary now?

It is transmitted through bodily fluids. 1/3 of all people have it. I think its possible that your child could come in contact with the virus in a healthcare situation.

IMO its not one of the vaccines I felt I should be worried about. Its a "small" shot for them. DS had all his doses of it. I never thought 2x about it.

They get two Hep b shots. One in the hospital usually and the second your first or second visit to the pediatrician. The nurse at the hospital as well as other sources said to decline the one at the hospital and get both from your ped. Something about the different batches or what not.

I spread out all shots, and my dd doesn't get every one, but I did give her the hep b, but not at birth. It's considered a "safe" shot bc it's been around for a while. Also, if your child goes to daycare it's a good idea too. Gl

I just had the hospital do it. The nurse mis-informed me (per my ped) that its to protect baby from ME and I dont have hep b so she didt need it. But it protects baby from anyone they come in contact with who will be visiting and holding baby. Its one less shot at the first well visit. The other one is at 4 mo I think?

This is one shot I think is ridiculous. It is for a sexually transmitted disease. If we offered an HIV shot, a hep c shot would you give your 1 day old baby that? If the answer is yes then do it.

I chose to skip it.

I asked my ped why in the world was this offered at the hospital and she told me it was an experiment to try and get rid of the disease. It failed but they still offer in hospital. So there is no reason why you have to do it then. You can wait until baby is 2 months old.

I think being born is hard enough and don't agree with shots on the first day of life. Waiting till baby is a bit older is better and honestly I don't think getting the hep b shot is as important as your baby is not sexually active or an Iv drug user.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question but can you get hep b if your child gets bit in daycare and they broke skin and drew blood? DS was in daycare but we were up to date with all his shots. It's kind of a requirement for daycare.

I waited. what blows my mind is that kids are supposed to have two hep b shots which they do but the hep b vaccine is also.in the dtap so it works out to be more than 2.

They're supposed to get three hep b doses by 18 months. I declined it in the hospital for DS and DD2 so they both received the first dose at 2 months old.

I agree with some of the other posters.... I think getting the vaccine at the first day of life is ridiculous since it's transmitted by bodily fluids ( sex , iv drug use....) Perhaps some daycare require it but I declined it a waited awhile for giving it to DS
