anyone thinking about #2 but had or need to do infertility treatments?

just curious how you feel about this? ds is almost 1 and i would like to have another. my age is a concern plus it took almost 3 years of hardcore treatments and ivf to have him.

honestly it was a nightmare. and then a horrid scary sick pregnancy.

so what the heck am i thinking??Chat Icon lol

if you did it again or are thinking of doing it again what brought you to that point of just going for it?

Re: anyone thinking about #2 but had or need to do infertility treatments?

I always wanted to have more than one child. We fell pregnant on the first "try"when I was 38 without help so I thought that the second would not be hard. To make a long story short we tried for about 6 months when he turned 9 months. When I turned 40 we headed straight to a fertility doctor and had to do IVF. My heart always felt that DS was not going to be an only child and that I wanted a sibling for him. Yes, there is no guarantee that they will always be close but I wanted to make that opportunity for closeness there. DD is wonderful and I'm so thankful for the medical resources that helped bring her into our life. To me, the emotional and financial stress was worth it.

I feel similar. After severa months of TTC we were told we would have almost 0% chance of conceiving on our own and need to do IVF. Miraculously, shortly after, we got preg. on our own with DD who is now 17 months. So, in thoughts of #2 we are so torn. What if we do need treatments or IVF this time? What if we can't do it on our own? We could have a long journey to #2 but who knows?? We are "unofficially" trying, aka just not being careful, whatever happens, happens. However, Im very anxious about trying this time, such much more to think about with DD. But I know it will happen when the time is right for us, trying not to think too much about it.

It depends on lots of factors.

I had gotten preggo my first IVF and had an easy pregnancy... And am still under 35. It's different. I got super lucky and had another baby naturally (I was going to try for a year and then do IVF again).

I honestly consider the age factor the biggest thing. I've seen three family and friends trying to get pregnant at 40 for tens of thousands, years, and losses. I know there are some people who do get pregnant... But too many don't. I don't remember how old you are.

If the process was too difficult, and I was older, but really wanted another child, I'd consider adoption.

I had to do 3 cycles of Clomid to have DS. I want the kids close in age, but I'm conflicted on when to start trying. I think I want to try this summer (naturally) and if it doesn't happen within 2 months, try with Clomid again. I just want this timed because I'm out of vacation days I'd need for maternity leave so I'd like a summer baby. (I know..crazy for trying to plan timing...I did that with #1 and he was due in January!)

It took 2 years to get of with DS. Then I had bad morning sickness and then was pulled out if work due to blood clots. I had a horrible pregnancy.

I am ready for #2 but not sure if we will be ok doing anything extra for a second. I am not sure we could afford multiples at this point. Age is also a factor since ill be 40 in less than a month.

Re: anyone thinking about #2 but had or need to do infertility treatments?

We always knew we were going to go for more than 1. When dd was 8 months I just started feeling sick and my dh was convinced I was pg. I took a test an was sooo shocked I was pg again on my own no fertility treatments. I was thrilled but than I had a mc. After that I had bad baby fever. I went back to the RE. Ttc #2 was much easier. We knew what had worked the 1st time and I got my bfp after only 1 cycle. We are going to try for 3rd next year. It's rough thinking about taking all the hormones again and all the stress and time that goes along with going to the re but the end result of a adding another family member is worth it all.

It took us 3 years, 7 iuis, 1 miscarriage, and ultimately IVF to have our Chat Icon Chat Icon. We were unexplained IF and I was 32 when I had them.

We were on the fence about a third. When they were 6 months old, we went back to the RE just to see what our options were (quality of my frosties, what would protocol look like, cost, etc.). We just wanted to have all the info.

I had already decided when and if we wanted a third, I would just go straight to the RE. The stress of trying to conceive on our own really wore me and DH out. Not to mention I couldn't even imagine putting all that stress and pressure on us again (with the twins at home).

Not that going through treatments isn't stressful, but its more of a controlled chaos. Anyway, we decided we would decide in another year when the boys turned 18 months and see how we felt at that time.

Well, you know what they say. If you wanna hear god laugh, make plans. 2 months later, I got pregnant on my own. Seriously it was one night. We were so shocked. Yes, we knew there was always a chance, but after so many years, we really doubted it.

I am due in 5 weeks and this baby will be 17 months apart from his brothers! Anyway, GL! I know it's so hard to know what to do.

I would love another baby, reality is I will probably only have the one. It took me five years and three rounds of IVF to conceive Chat Icon I had a great pregnancy, I loved being pregnant. My lo is now 16 months and I have not been on bc since I had her and nothing has happened for me. I will not do IVF again as I am not forty and financially can not afford to do it again. If it happens naturally I would be overjoyed, if not I am blessed with my lo. I love being a mom and always dreamed of a huge family. Lots of women do go on to have babies naturally so I'm hoping that's the case for us!

anyone thinking about #2 but had or need to do infertility treatments?

im still hoping that i dont need treatment for #2. honestly DD is almost 2 and the further away i get from her newborn years, the less i can picture having a newborn in the house again. its strange, i can picture going through treatments again, i can picture being pregnant, i even picture a happy healthy delivery (which didnt happen with DD), but I just cannot imagine having another BABY right now. i feel like im becoming more unready than ready.

anyway DH is very far from being ready. at this point i feel like i might never really be ready - so honestly whenever HE gives the OK, i'll prob hop on board. its one of those things where when we first started trying i was super scared. then it took so long and was such a crazy journey that i became more scared that it woudn't happen. but now that im back to thinking about it again, it's a whole new set of fears. i never thought i would say this but suddenly i can actually picture Em being an only child.

its strange and im not sure any of this is useful to you. i secretly just hope it either happens by surprise or that my mind changes as more time passes..

Re: anyone thinking about #2 but had or need to do infertility treatments?

I had secondary IF, but I think about this ALL THE TIME for number 3.

I am pregnant with number 2, but my RE wants me back in to try for Irish twins next year because my AMH is .03, and IVF did not work with me, luckily I got pregnant on the converted IUI. But I am terrified of twins, I really want to enjoy my new baby, and nurse he/she if I can, not have to stop nursing, take drugs, go to appointments every other day. And as silly as this sounds, I had to cancel my trip this year due to pregnancy, so we are suppose to go to Costa Rica next summer, and I would really like to do that. Not to mention we are pretty much out of IF coverage.

I still have a ton of drugs left over, but they expire by next March, so I am thinking of trying in February, then halting everything if it doesn't work until this baby is a year old. I don't want to lose out on thousands of dollars of drugs, when everything is out of pocket.

Anyway, long story short, if I didn't have the AMH issue then I would probably wait a couple of years, but I have this giant freaking clock weighing over me, and I don't want to regret not going for number 3 out of fear of having two close together, KWIM?

Re: anyone thinking about #2 but had or need to do infertility treatments?

It took us over three years, three faled IUIs, Five Failed IVFs, a m/c, PGD/PGS, low amniotic fluid, fibroids, hypertension, sciatica, bedrest for 20 weeks, and an early delivery to finally get DS. Six months after DS, with me being 38 we started IVF again. At 41 y/o we are officially done. Sad but done. Going through IF the second time around, especially with a toddler, was grueling. The doctors appointments, the hormones, the highs, the lows... And while people kept telling me that I should at least feel blessed that I have DS (which obviously I DOChat Icon ), it still doesnt take away from the fact that we have had to stop when we still felt our family is incomplete. It makes me feel like even more of a failure. I did it once; why didnt it work THIS TIME?

DH is ready for number 2 but I can't think about it. We don't have the $ we had the 1st time around. We lost out of network benefits as well and I only want to see 1 DR who happens to be OON. I think we will eventually try on our own. My OB can write me scripts for the things I know I will need...Age is a factor for us since my FSH is already high but I just can't go through multiple MC's again...I dunno where we are at anymore :(

I am currently pregnant with #2. It took us 2.5 years to get pregnant with our first 4 failed iui and got pregnant with first ivf. Went thru all our coverage and paid over 12k for ivf. Then with #2 we had 4 failed IVF, 2 MC and got pregnant with our 5th IVF. I knew that our 5th IVF would have probably been our last. The emotional and physical trials, took me away from my DS and that was hard. I never knew that the desires to have a second would be just as strong as the first time around and sometimes stronger. I don't regret my path.... and that's what I think is important

Re: anyone thinking about #2 but had or need to do infertility treatments?

We've BEEN TRYING for #2 and it is actually so much harder this time around. I HATE having to take time away from DD for appts and whatnot, work has been insane and my fear of multiples really has me in a tizzy. Emotionally I ma finding it easier because, for us, the stakes aren't as high as they were last time but everything else is more hellish. On top of that I feel like I am "settling" with my RE but we just can't afford anymore OOP to go w/ Braverman. Truth be told, I wish we had started with an RE sooner (waited until Jan of this year) b/c as Payton gets bigger and I get older I am thinking that I won't be at this too much longer, the idea of the newborn phase and another high risk pregnancy scare me a lot. Plus I have her to think about too, when considering all the risks. Ugh, it just nerves gets any easier. But she is the best thing that ever happened to me and I would LOVE to give her a sibling. Guess time will tell!!
Best of luck to you!!

Re: anyone thinking about #2 but had or need to do infertility treatments?

Our journey started when I got married almost 9 years ago when I threw away my birth control pills. It took us 7 years, numerous IUIs, 5 IVFs, and 4 doctors before I finally conceived my DS in May of 2011. He is our miracle baby since he was born 6 weeks early and was in the NICU. I had heard numerous stories about women getting pregnant on their own after dealing with fertility issues but I never thought it would happen to me. I knew I wanted DS to have a sibling and I was 35 when I had him so age to me was a huge factor. I was going to give myself 1 year to try on my own before going back to the RE however 8 months later I had a miscarriage and that same month I conceived again and Im due in 4 weeks. If it didn't happen on our own then I would have gone back to the doctor and done fertility treatments. I know the first few months are going to be really tough but I also know I really, really wanted another baby. Good Luck!!

Re: anyone thinking about #2 but had or need to do infertility treatments?

I think about this all the time. It was three years trying and then countless IUIs and 3 failed IVFs to finally get a BFP. DD is 10mo now and I am thinking of babies again. I had a pretty good pregnancy but the entire time i had to give myself shots for clotting issues and had GD. The first time if you told me I had to set my toes on fire I would but the shots and the restrictions with a toddler??. I think about having to got thru the putting back two frosties, if I can, and what happens if they both implant or neither? I would be ok with just one.(at least I tried). I am over 40 and every day that passes i feel im losing time but the fear of changing the dynamic of my little family and the fear of handling 2 kids as a FTWM is a bit daunting. I know that getting pregnant on my own is def not going to happen and DH doesnt press the issue if we have more or not hes happy.

Re: anyone thinking about #2 but had or need to do infertility treatments?

i also think about this as well... though DS is almost 8 months and we are not ready yet for another (although if i won the lottery i would totally be ready!), I do know my body is still not "normal" (very irregular, short cycles, don't think I am ovulating which was a problem for me the first time around) so it makes me wonder when we are ready to try, whether or not we should go straight to the RE again. As much as I would like it "timed" right as a PP mentioned, (its to my benefit w/ work to give birth in may or june) I know I shouldn't really plan for any specific time frame. I don't know we'll see, I plan on going to my OB today though and request that my hormone levels be tested.
